View Full Version : Is there any love for Harvest Moon anymore?

Does anyone still play/like this game? I'm thinking about doing some minor ASM hacks to make it act like a *real* game . . . Such as making it possible to die.

Is anybody thinking about doing a Harvest Moon hack? Is anybody interested in playing a Harvest Moon hack?

Feedback?

I don't like the actual game, but i do like hacks. Especially good ones. And especially if someone like you makes it.

The only thing I didn't like about Harvest Moon was the farming. Of course, that's at least 90% of the gameplay <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

I'd really only be interested if there were a way to make the farming less tedious.

My metroid project is still being worked on in full(?) force . . . But as time goes on, there will be moments of boredom where I'll want to work on other smaller projects.

Nor for me . . . That's why I wouldn't be making the hack. I'd simply make a few small/simple scripts to liven it up a bit.

Jasyth. Add the miracle gloves so you don't have to keep going over to the bin when you harvest your crops. other than that =\ I suck at ideas. so fix everything.

Does anyone know any reasons why:
a) Harvest Moon uses 00's instead of FF's to represent unused space in the ROM?
b) Harvest Moon has absolutely nothing at all in its last 3 banks?

The short answer to both of these questions is, "Why not?"

The technical answer for them is that it depends on the assembler and the tools that were used to make the game. Some tools fill blank space with FFs, some with a weird pattern of 00s and FFs so that it looks like a checkerboard pattern when viewed in a tile editor, some just null empty space. It would be my guess that, when the game was assembled, the programs just used zeroes for empty space and packed everything together sequentially so that, eventually, if the rom didn't match a valid multiple-of-four megabit size, it just padded on extra empty banks.

anything man. i'm serious, anything new that you put out for HM will make me extremely happy <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

and in a few months i plan to get out of the 6502 realm and expand my horizons... namely 65816. maybe i'll be tinkering a bit with HM.. :)

I love that game, and there's a lot that can be done with it. Primarily I'd like it if one can be able to set the time limit, how many years you can play. And also maybe find ways to reduce lag in the game, I know that the game really starts to slow when your chicken or cow place is full.

Also, the time sometimes goes a little too fast. I think the game would be more enjoyable if there were at least 25% more time in a day before it's 6am or whenever that is.

Also if there were ways to add more shades to the days depending on the time it might seem less boring, and if it weren't as dark in the night(moonlight ;D).

The ideas can just go on, I'm not sure how much time you'll have along with projects like SMILE and ALLIANCE. But it may be possible to edit the maps of HM and rearrange the town, or add more places to go to in the mountains etc.

Another thing what would be cool is an easy way to change graphics of the player, or dog.

removal of the infinite night thing, it was really cheap to chop 10k worth of logs in about 2 hours (hotsprings, wood, hotsprings, wood) especially if you had the gold tools.

other than that HM is gold to me

In therms of interface and such, I would really like:
-An invetory. I hate having to go to the Mill(?) to swap between tools.
-Displaying the current date at any screen corner.
-A better font, and with black borders would be lovely :).
-Ditch the sfx played when each text char appears. Either something like AlttP (a rather quiet sound for a block of text), or completely silent.
-Health condition displayed.

Gameplay wise:
-Minigames to earn either money, or some pseudo farm points for some rare stuff, or something. It would even make the game less tedious.
-Side quests other than just flirting chicks. Maybe some day, one of the town houses is in flames, and you have to carry water from somewhere to extinguish the fire (duh), or maybe even the search for a talking tree that gives you some awesome seeds. What do I know, spice it up and give it a little variety on the stuff you can do.
-Longer days and not endless nights. Ambient sound during night wouldn't be bad, hell, even a cricket makes me happy :)
-More interaction with people while you are working in your farm. Not that much either, but a phone wouldn't hurt.

That's all I can currently think of. Sorry if it seems a little too demanding.
