Maybe I should move on from the 3 roms that I hack (SMB1, Pokemon Blue, and SMW) and make hacks of another ROM? And, do people ever hack for the PS1, N64, GC, PS2, etc?

I think some do. But only text hacking. PS1, GC, PS2, N64 are still very new consoles, so there is no good tools to hack them. But it's not very hard. Only sometimes you get some compressions in games so you need decompressor. I don't know anything about this. Forums (http://www.romhacking.com/battleground/index.php) at Romhacking.com are very useful.

I dont' know about GC....I do know Cless is working on translating the PS1 version of Tales of Phantasia (or at least was...haven't checked up on it in awhile, but it seemed like progress was going well. He was even subbing the japanese dialog in the movies)....and Ghideon Zhi is working on this one game, it's a PS2 game I think...can't recall the title though....if you're curious it should be on Aeon Genesis.

Hacks for those systems require super amounts of dedication and brain power. It might be better to stick with NES/GB/SNES/Megadrive/etc.

Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, both PS1.

...and there's no "h" in Gideon.

Plus the fact that most of the classics are for those system

(The only "modern" game I've ever tried hacking was FF7, I was going to fix the typos and Engrish, but lost the motivation)

The local butcher is pretty keen on hacking meat.

There are typos in a game like FF7? And what's Engrish?

http://www.engrish.com/Engrish.com has plenty of a examples of severe Engrish. Milder forms of Engrish aren't as obvious, but tend to make things sound stilted and awkward.

People have been known to fiddle with PS1 games. Tile molestor can do graphcs from N64 games. Right now people are having a hard time extracting stuff from GC games.
Anything lower's fair game though.

Move on if you've mastered hacking 8-bit games. Once you can hack the s--t out of other NES games (i.e. kirby) and Master System games, move on to hacking sonci or so, there are communities around hacking the MD games.

I myself am currently hacking Sonic 1, Sonic 2, (for the genesis), Knuckles Chaotix (for the Sega 32X), and Dragon Ball Advance Adventure (GBA). make sure you start at the bottom though.
