Have you ever thought of the idea of making an emulator for SNES? Due to its capabilities, I think it can only emulate NES, GB (it's official), and other inferior systems.

Didn't I read in a doc somewhere once that the 65816 is backwards-compatible with the 6502... so shouldn't it be able to run NES games without funky mappers natively?

I also seem to remember from my early teen years that there was some kinda import item that could play NES games on an SNES, but I don't remember if it was real or vaporware.

The 65816 is definitely backward compatible. The only problem is that the other hardware is different...the NES and SNES have different registers for the graphics, the SNES has an entirely different way of doing sound, etc. Anthrox did release some conversions that you can find (in GoodSNES they start with "AS"), although some of them seem to crash ZSNES, some do work. They obviously had to go through all the game's code and convert references to NES hardware registers to SNES ones, which just goes to show you that old-school rom hackers on BBSes were fucking insane. (and awesome)

This: http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repository/snes/peripherals/super8.html. I remember that thing...wanted one but couldn't get one imported quick enough from China before it vanished.

I've got one, if someone wants to buy/trade. It's funny. I was thinking of putting it on ebay but it's a funny item to try to search for, and anyway it would probably get taken off...
