I can load and play Sega CD ISO/MP3 files perfectly using "Gens" but when I try to use save states I get into trouble. I have tried both "save state" and "quick save state" and they both encounter the same problem, which is this. It saves, almost like a screenshot when I try to load it back up, the screen sits where I previously had saved it but I cannot continue my game, I hear strange music in the backround that is not from the game I was playing. Please help me with this issue thanks!

Gens does not support save states for the SegaCD, according to the text that comes with it. Kega or Kega Fusion might, but I don't know.

i didn't think it was possible to save states with a sega/mega CD game. when those games are played, the data from the discs are cached into 6 Megabits of RAM allocated by Gens to match the real console's behavior. unless you were loading a state that matches the exact game data currently in your cache, i think it's impossible.

if somebody has evidence to the contrary, i'd love to know so i can save states in some of the more difficult shooters :P

Kega (Lazarus + Fusion) and Gens are supporting Save-States in every in-game-situation and there are interchangeable between these emulators...

So far as I know though, it is not supported in the *current* version of Gens. Sega Genesis, and I believe 32x, but not SegaCD as of yet, at least not that I'm aware of.

Sorry, but only Gens and Gens+ are supporting Sega-CD-Savestates... but to get them working in RPG's, you have to load a "normal savegame" from the bram and then load your savestate to avoid weird music and so on - Keio Flying Squadron or Robo Aleste are running without this trick! Kega, both Fusion and Lazarus, are not supporting Sega-CD-savestates yet.

Hence why they're not really supported yet...that sounds pretty 'hacky' to me, not how it's actually supposed to work. If they were fully supported, every SegaCD game would work using Savestates, and none of this odd trickery would be needed to use them.

I believe Gens Plus! is better at SegaCD save states ("Some fixes on Sega CD save states (not 100% functional).", in Gens Plus! 0.0.0.XX). Also, an Xbox version of Gens claims to have fully functional SegaCD save states. Not sure if that's true.

I'm not sure, Gens Plus! might be (haven't tried it, although I really should get playing Popful Mail again). Hm, I guess I'm just being nitpicky, I guess he did mention Gens Plus!, but I'm certain vanilla Gens doesn't support it.

Anyway, it's not like it's really that important.

Yeah, the official version of Gens (either 2.11 or the WIP 2.12a) doesn't have SegaCD savestate support, only saving the state of the Genesis part, not the SegaCD part. I heard this was enough to make savestates work on Sonic CD, but they didn't for me.

This may well change in the future though, since Stef and the author of Gens Plus! are aparrently teaming up to release a new version of Gens with the features currently in Gens Plus!, which should be interesting.

As mentioned above I'm using the undocumented SegaCD-Savestate-Feature for years in Gens Version 1.91 and above... Don't trust the helpfile, try it... playing through Robo Aleste without the loss of a life is fun :)... or not ?

I have tried saving save states with SegaCD games before (including with SonicCD) and have had no luck at all.

Use Gens+ (better savestate-feature than in the old gens as Lillymon mentioned above!) and try it now and today. It work's incl. small preview screenshot of your sega-cd-savestate! I played yesterday through Robo Aleste using this feature with my savestates from the old gens. Your years-old opinions are not up- to-date...

Oh shit, you're right! I forgot to update to Opinions Service Pack 2 (tm).

Anyway, as I was saying, I had been talking about Gens, not Gens+, but this is a pointless post that doesn't really matter anymore, so I'll be seeing ya after Opinions SP2 is done downloading. I wish I wasn't on dial up, it's at least 20 megs.

On your dial-up-connection it should be done in less than 4 hours... PM me, if you're succesfull.
BTW let's give it another try with your SonicCD or Popful Mail!

This thread was about SegaCD games so I threw out a random Popful Mail reference since you also randomly mentioned Popful Mail. I really honestly don't want to see your penis.
