Whenever I try to change Mario's colors to anything, it just changes it to grey. Blue = Grey. Green = Grey. Anyone know how to make the thing work?

Oh.

Anyways, if it's on zophar.net, you'd at least expect it to work? Like why is it even there in the first place when it doesnt do anything but change Mario things to grey?

Because it's still an editor dipstick. Don't dis the site and don't dis other people. Being a smartass isn't a way to make friends here. Well, not overtly anyway.

I know I know. It's just in my nature to complain. I know if I had a site and the guy who made that said, "Hey can you put this on your site?" I'd say, "No. It's a cool idea, but get it to work before you start submitting it places!"

Yeah, it doesn't "appear" to do much of anything. I'm assuming you wanted to use this for your sprite comic, not for any kind of actual rom hacking. If you're just looking for a way to change the colors on the screen, there are emulators that have pallette editors built in. You can change the colors with those. I know Nesticle has one, but I don't really "suggest" you use Nesticle for anything.

For one dont assume anything. I dont use emulators for my comics. It's a good idea, which I've thought of doing, but I dont want to do it that way.

I'm making a version of SMB where everything is MUCH harder! I thought it would be cool to make change Mario's pallette to purple clothes and blue hair.

Well if you haven't yet, look for a doc about palette hacking, since that's what you'll need to change the colors.

edit: spelled palette wrong
Edited by Ugly Joe on 07/09/04 11:58 PM.

Well whenever I use a ROM graphics editor and look through the palletes, none of them ever match the one for mario.

Get a hex editor, it's more fun that way

This (http://www.zophar.net/tech/files/paletdat.html) worked like a charm for me, give it a shot.

There's no way we can test all of the things that are posted on this site. This is meant to an archive, so basically we've had to sacrifice some quality for quantity. That's not to say that the quality programs aren't there, just that they might be harder to find and interspersed with not-so-quality programs.

Have you contacted the author about the problems you're having? Has anybody else been able to get it working? If it's totally useless, I'll just remove it, but it must have been working under some circumstances or else the author wouldn't have bothered.

I tried it with multiple dumps of the rom and all it's spitting out are grays (or corrupting the roms in the case of some multicarts).

Thanks. It IS more fun with a hex editor. I use Thingy. I used that to hack CT a while back! =D
