Pocket Sarien

Preface
Did you ever play old Sierra's game? Sure, you did. Chances are, you played one
of AGI games -- Leisure Suit Larry I, Space Quest I and II, King's Quest I-IV,
and a few others. Now you can replay them on you Pocket PC.

Important message
Pocket Sarien binaries and sources are distributed "as is" with no guaranties
whatsoever. Use it on your own risk. Be aware that the base project (Sarien)
is a work in progress, many features may not work properly and you may
experience program crashes. Those crashes are usually harmless but neither
Pocket Sarien author nor Sarien team carry any responsibility for any damage
cause by use, abuse, misuse or inability to use this product.
AFAIK, no Sierra AGI games were released to public domain. In order to play the
game you must own it. Getting old Sierra games is considerably easier than
any other old game -- most of them were recently re-released in various "classic"
collections. Those collections are very reasonably priced and can be found in
any good software store.

Installation
Copy correct executable to your Pocket PC. You can place it wherever you want,
storage card works just fine. No special installation is needed. You will also
need GAPI from Microsoft site. If you are playing games on your Pocket PC, you
probably already have it. I suggest copying gx.dll into Windows directory on
Pocket PC, so all games will be able to use it.
Create folder "etc" (no quotes) in the root of the filesystem and place file
sarien.conf there. You can skip this step but Pocket Sarien will issue a warning
every time you start playing a game. Most games work just fine if you skip this
step but some (e.g., KQ4) may exhibit odd behavior and lockups.
Locate that game you want to play (you have the original disk, right?) PC
versions are easier to use, newer Sierra collections are the easiest.
Create folder on your device and copy the following files from selected game
directory: LOGDIR, OBJECT, PICDIR, SNDDIR, VIEWDIR, WORDS.TOK, and all VOL.*.
If you don't see these files in game directory, it's not an AGI game and Sarien
cannot deal with it.

Use
Run Pocket Sarien, browse to the folder with game files, select any file you
can see there and press OK. The game should load and run immediately.
Most AGI games heavily rely on text input. Use input panel for text. Joypad is
one way to move your character, you can also tap the screen with stylus. Tap
the top of the screen to get to the menu. Some games made use of F1-F10 keys,
those appear above input panel. Overall, controls should be pretty intuitive.
