Version .2.1.1 - Final Updates>>

Major doh! here... Found a bug in a room positioning on the map.

Room: 23 in Ridley's Hideout had been repositioned on map location: 12/19. Unfortunately that room was using Door Tile: 02.

There are 2 types of doors in Metroid - one that causes travel to change from vertical to horizontal - and one that causes the travel type to stay the same based off of what your current travel method is...ie: If you are in a horizontal shaft and you go through the first type, then you will enter into a vertical shaft. If you are in a horizontal room and you go through the second type, then you will enter into a similar horizontal shaft. This is a very important thing to remember when hacking this game.

Anyways, Room 23 was using Door Tile: 02 which didn't work for the current map layout. My bad for not seeing this!!

I have since changed the following:

Map Locations: 12/19, 13/19, 14/19, and 15/19 have been changed back to their original room layouts of:
		Rooms: 20, OC, 16, and 27.

This should take care of it.

Version .2.1 - Final Updates>>

I have completely re-built the game. I ended up scratching the old hack and re-doing everything. New graphics, new tiles, new enemy graphics and animations, new layouts, new puzzles and secrets...you name it and it has probably been changed.

I'm not going to bore you with the lists of changes like I did in the last readme... just play the game and enjoy!

Install>>

To intall this file simply extract it to a directory where you have a NES emulator installed and then using an IPS utility apply the .ips file to your original Metroid.nes file and play the game through whatever emulator you choose. Take note: Applying this patch to the original metroid game will overwrite that game. So make a copy of the original so that you can play both and compare the two.

Introduction>>

Let me start off by saying thank you for trying out this hack.

The goal was to recreate Metroid. I call it Metroid Origin really only to differ from the original game name and because I feel that this hack is how the original game should have been. What this hack is, is Metroid redone for my pleasure and hopefully yours.

There were many things in the original Metroid that bothered me and that I felt could have been done better. So after doing some searching for different types of editors, I was finally able to find MetEdit and be able to try to change Metroid myself and fix all of the areas that I thought could have been better.

After getting heavly involved in the editing of the game, I realized that I wanted to redo the whole game. So I began looking for more editors...and found Tile Layer, and Hexexpose. Now with these 3 programs I was able to completely redo the game....and that's what I did.

Every part of the game has been redone. I have also gone through the whole game and there are no bugs. So the user shouldn't have any problems using this hack.

I was very disappointed to find that most of the hacks that I downloaded for Metroid...were either not complete, or they just plain sucked. (Hopefully I'm not offending anyone with this remark....but the truth hurts sometimes.) However...I did play MetroidX....and boy was I amazed. I really liked the way things were layed out and it inspired me even more to hack the game. So that is why I took the time to redo the whole game and test it as well. I wanted to give the game a true "alien" environment. But most of all, I wanted to make the game really fun to play.

A FINAL SIDE NOTE:

I have completely removed 2 energy tanks from the game. I always thought it was really stupid that there were more energy tanks than Samus could carry. So now there are only 6 energy tanks in the game....which is exactly how many Samus can carry.
