-------------------------------- INTRODUCTION ---------------------------------

Ultraman Ball is an action game released by Bandai for the Nintendo Gameboy in
1994. It was never officially released in English but was translated by
Suicidal Translations and released on February 28th, 2003.

This file serves as an instruction manual for the translated game. It is not a
translation of the original instruction manual but is an original work based on
my experiences playing the game.

---------------------------------- THE STORY ----------------------------------

Ultraman's team members have been captured by the evil Baltan Seijin in order
to force a showdown. Ultraman transforms into Ultraball and prepares to do
battle to rescue his friends!

---------------------------------- GAMEPLAY -----------------------------------

This is a basic action game, so there's not much depth to the actual gameplay.

General play control is as such:

Left/Right: move left/right
   Up/Down: move up/down ladders/vines
         B: transform into Ultraball
         A: jump/bounce higher/fly
     Start: pause

When in Ultraball form, Ultraman is nearly invulnerable. Only a couple of
enemies can hurt him (those that shoot projectiles) and he can even bounce on
the almighty fatal spikes! The drawbacks are that he is a bit more difficult
(though more enjoyable) to control and he can't climb.

Additionally, if you in the air, pressing against a wall will cause you to hug
the wall and slow your descent. You can jump while doing this, allowing you to
scale walls.

LEVELS
------
There are 4 levels in Ultraman Ball. The first 3 consist of 4 sub-levels and
a boss level. The fourth level contains 4 sub-levels with a rematch with a
previous boss between each level and a final showdown with Baltan Seijin at
the end. There aren't any signficant changes between the levels (other than
layout and enemies) but they contain some pretty nice backgrounds for a
pre-color Gameboy game.

ITEMS
-----
Orb - Extra life.
Heart - Collect 10 hearts to gain an extra life.
Clock - Add 30 seconds to the timer.
Space Ship - 5000 points
Feather - temporary flying ability

Orbs, Clocks and Space Ships come in present boxes. You must be in Ultraball
form in order to unwrap them. Also you can bust open a box that contains a
larger space ship once per level but I've been unable to determine any purpose
in doing so as of yet. If you figure it out, please let me know.

BONUS GAME
----- ----
Certain levels contain a door that leads to the bonus game. In this game, you
shoot Ultraball out of a cannon and hit the hearts that are sliding across the
screen. For each heart you hit, you gain 1 heart. The catch is that there are
Ultraman heads sliding across in the other direction. For every Ultraman head
you hit, you lose 1 heart. Completion of the bonus game also results in
completion of the level from which you entered it.

---------------------------------- CONCLUSION ---------------------------------

So there you have it. Not the most complex game of all time but I rather enjoy
it. It won't take you hours on end to defeat like some other games but it's
well worth playing when you're just out to have a little fun.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. The official site of the Ultraman
Ball translation is at http://www.pigtails.net/ST and you can find the most
current contact information there as well.
