ePSXe
a Sony - PlayStation Emulator on the Windows/DOS platform<< Go to Sony - PlayStation emulators list
ePSXe is a PSX emulator that takes advantage of the PSEmu Pro plugin system. It requires DX7a and a good 3D card. A PSX bios image is also needed to use it.
Right now it is the best freeware Playstation emulator available.
The ePSXeCutor is the premiere frontend for ePSXe. This release takes advantages of some features not yet present in ePSXe (it works off of a pre-release version).

I can't believe they released a new version after 4 years of downtime. Emulation, keeping all of gaming alive, while the corporations milk as hard as they can!!
Rovelius says:
A new release, but it sucks. 1.5.2 is the best version, has a better support.

it still can't run certain extensions

Prior to ePSXe 1.7 I was not a fan. I used pSX do to its higher compatibility and accuracy of emulation and because I didn't have to configure it for every game I run. However, as of ePSXe 1.7 I am a believer.
Now the compatibility is almost perfect. Being a purist, I want the games to look just like it did on the real PlayStation as it was displayed on a CRT television. ePSXe has the settings and scan line emulation to do just that.
Thanks to ePSXe and Pete's OpenGL2 plug in, I am one happy camper. Thanks so much.
