Z-Net v1.40

posted in Utility Release by mfc on Apr 28th, 2004

DarkAkuma wrote in to tell us about an update to his mIRC script that helps you find other people for ZSNES netplay! Here is what's new:
  • New option added in settings window, to turn off CRC scan feature. Good for people with low processors, and large rom collections.
  • New auto option added to the settings window. Auto Close. When left unchecked, the main Z-Net window wont close after start game is pressed.
  • Added a new /ZCRC command. When you type that, you will be promted to select a game. After selecting one, a message telling you the CRC of the game will appear.
  • Added /ZRules. Type this to open up the new Rules.txt file, to see the rules for the Z-Net channels. You can also use /ZRules 1-10 to quickly display a specific rule privately.
  • Added a new "Advanced" tab to the ad config window. Adds the option to type in the names of the game you want to play, rather then just select them. Good for condenceing several sequals of a game into 1 ad slot, like "Super Bomberman 1-5".
  • The options formly just selectable from right clicking the nicklist window, and private message windows, and now selectable from right clicking the channel window too.
  • A workaround/fix has been added, to retreave peoples IP's that cant be /dns'ed.
  • Added a pop-up window when Z-Net is first loaded, explaining to the new user the 3 most important things he needs to know/do before trying to use Z-Net. Router Setup, Rules, and ReadMe. (The 3 R's for short, i gues =p) This pop up can be recalled at any time by typeing /NewUser.
  • Added a redundant message when opening the /Z-Net window, to help reduce the chance of the mis matching protocol error bug.
  • Big change has been done to the /Z-Net window. 1st, it has a new UI/skin feature to it, makeing it look less dull, and more customizeable. You can set the UI/skin directory by typing /ZUI, and selecting the directory containing the new skin you want to use. Also, theres a new drop down list box in the upper left corner of the window, where you can select the name of someone in the room that you want to play with. The shameless display of the name of the Z-Net coder (me, DarkAkuma) has been moved to its own little about pop-up window, and in its old spot, the status of your !Games ad will be displayed.
  • Fixed a few various bugs before and during beta testing, that i dont remember well enough to list.
  • Changed the distribution packageing for Z-Net, from the old .zip, to a new install .exe. Installing Z-Net is now made alot easier, by promting you to select your mirc directory, and by removeing the need to type the "/load -rs Z-Net/Z-Net.ini" command. All thats required now is either for mIRC to be off during the install, or be restarted after the install. When upgradeing, the /ZReload command still needs to be typed, or mirc needs to be restarted.
  • In addition to these changes, the Z-Net/mIRC pre packaged version finaly has its own custum to Z-Net look to it.
