Tile Molester: be afraid.....be very afraid

Kent Hansen AKA SnowBro has recently released his all-powerful Java based Tile Editor to the public: Tile Molester marks the beginning of a new era in console graphics editing. From the author of such tools as "Tile Layer" and "Tile Layer Pro" comes a program that can manipulate everything from horribly pixilated PacMan sprites to high-resolution Nintendo 64 graphics. Here's the chance to apply your artistic skills to your favorite videogames and give them new life! It's also worth looking into if you're a homebrew console developer who needs to be able to manipulate graphics in a range of formats range of formats efficiently. A quick overview of the features:
  • - Supports NES, SNES, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis / MegaDrive / 32X, Nintendo 64, WonderSwan, NeoGeo Pocket officially (and many more "exotic", unofficial/undocumented formats)
  • - Easy-to-learn interface for anyone who's used a graphics program (MSPaint and Paint Shop Pro has been used as templates)
  • - Import and export graphics in several formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PCX. You can copy and paste graphics bet between games, or import your existing artwork easily
  • - Performs automatic color reduction when pasting graphics to a lo-res format
  • - Bookmark and organize your discoveries (in an Explorer-like fashion) inside ROMs so they can easily be retrieved later
  • - Palettes can be created from scratch or imported from existing palettes, you can even import palettes from the game itself so you can view sprite colors exactly as they appear in the game
  • - Graphics-, file- and palette-formats are completely specified through the XML language, and can be configured by the user without requiring changes to the program itself
  • - Can be translated to any language, currently has English, Spanish and Norwegian translation
Be sure to check out the Tile Molester gallery here to see some of what it can do. You can also check these three extra screenshots provided by EFX for more brief glimpses at the power of Tile Molester: TM Ex 1 : TM Ex 2 : TM Ex 3 Please do note that Tile Molester requires the Java Runtime Environment, more information can be found at Kent's Tile Molester page, or you can download Java here. This program can be found in our Translation Utility section. Thanks to Kent Hansen for the great utility and EFX for the News
