Genesis music fans: hope is on the horizon.
posted in Misc. News by deathadder on Apr 20th, 2003Recently, I called for a "revolution" regarding the extraction and storage of Sega Genesis / Megadrive game soundtracks. Thank goodness, there's more support out there for this sort of thing than I imagined. One of the most hopeful sources of support is, once again, Mr. Charles MacDonald. Quoted from his website: "The other project I've been putting effort into is developing a specification for storing ripped Genesis sound code/data, which allows for music playback just like SID/NSF/HES files (no more bulky GYMs). I've been able to successfully extract the music from about 20 games so far, and plan to release some tools, a player, and a document outlining the file format when possible. Currently I'm testing out the music rips using a conversion utility which appends a player to the file, allowing it to be run on any Genesis emulator or a copier." Hope is, therefore, on the horizon. One day, we shall have a convenient format for storage of Sega Genesis / Megadrive soundtracks. On that day, the GYM will be closed for good. Stay tuned for more updates, and don't forget to play Super Fighter!
