Default Did I miss the memo?

Since when did Martin Luther King Jr stand for getting piss drunk and not having to go to work in the morning? Seriously. At least half of the people who came into my workplace last night were so drunk they could barely speak coherently, and the worst of them would begin singing. Is this really how we remember people now? Or the schools. The junior high school in my neighborhood is marching to the high school to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. When I asked a couple students what one had to do with the other, they had no damn clue. Personally I say if we are going to re-enact marching on Washington, then hire the police to spray the kids with fire hoses and beat them with billy clubs. That will give them the proper context to understand why he was important.

No clue why I decided to rant on this, I'm just tired and crabby as shit today I guess.

All the schools here are closed. It's kind of ironic that we honor a man who stood for education, knowledge and tolerance by giving kids the day off.

I was channel surfing this morning and I saw some movie about a guy who infiltrated the KKK for the FBI. That movie pissed me off so bad...I feel like apologizing to every black person over 50.

Martin Luther King Jr. stood for non-violence....but isn't it ironic that anywhere in America, if you're on MLK Boulevard, I can guaran-damn-tee that there's some violence goin down....

Please....lets be PC now.....its "People of Color" not "black." Can anyone tell me how we went from "colored" to "black" to "african american" to "People of color"....we went in a damn PC circle....what the blue fuck is wrong with this bullshit?!

I mean seriously....call yourself whatever the hell you want to...but geeze...lets try to get something to stay consistent for more than a decade.

I agree that the day should be one were we actually reflect on what he accomplished. I will tip a Guinness in his direction, though... but that'd different. Martin Luther King was an incredible man of faith with no fear of death, and I can't say there's a man I admire more in our history.

Well then there's the opposite end of the spectrum - here in Utah:

They don't want the 5 black people in town drinking malt liquor on their holiday so the state-run liquor stores are closed. <img src=smilies/upeyes.gif>

goddamnit - and i love high-gravity malt liquor!

You also missed the one about Memorial Day. Where were you when they sent the e-mail?

I've no problem with you ranting about it. I don't blame you.
But what I find even more abhorrent is how the lame-ass country white trash down here refer to this day as.
He was a great man - who believed in passive resistance. Not falling into the racial tags the whites gave the blacks.
He believed we were, indeed, all created equal.
We all bleed the same color. We all cry the same way.
That's what we need the kids to learn. All the kids.
That's what we need to pass on to our own.
