Doing free stuff for friends again...but I broke my own rule. I need to make a living off of this "computer thing" now, so I made a rule that 1st tier friends get freebies....like my personal friends. Friends of friends have to pay. Did it again.

I did data recovery this past weekend for a (girl)friend of a friend. XP took a dump on itself and wouldn't boot, so I loaded up Gentoo's install disk, modprobed ntfs, mounted the drive, and instantly bypassed NTFS' piss poor implementation of "security."

Hours worked: 1 hour initial assessment, 1 hour actual work
Outcome: successful recovery of data
Total bill: $200
Amount I'll receive: $0

In my other life as a DJ/sound engineer, I have a concert this weekend....we're doing a full band setup with my large system on Wednesday with a soundcheck and then the 2 shows are Friday and Saturday nights.

Hours worked: 2 for loading/moving, 2 for setup, 4 for soundcheck, 6 for each concert, 2 for teardown/moving
Outcome: just another awesome show by yours truly as FOH
Total bill: $1000
Amount I'll receive: $0

At the very least, the one woman involved with this is the head of the YWCA here....so I'm going to kiss as much ass as possible to try and get them to outsource their computer needs to me. I'm going to FLIP if my business cards aren't here by Wednesday....IhopeIhopeIhopeIhope.
