Default Jacob's Ladder

Just saw Jacob's Ladder about an hour ago. Holy freaking crap, that movie was absolutely disturbing and genius. If you like psychological horror, then watch watch watch. It's a unique viewing experience in that completely trusting the film is impossible. Things will be progressing normally in a totally safe and believable reality, and all of the sudden something disturbingly surreal or bizarre will occur.

As an interesting tidbit, I've heard people say that the Silent Hill series was inspired by this film. Well, IMHO, it wasn't just "inspired by." Silent Hill's a direct rip-off / homage, depending on how you look at it. Everything I can recall from Konami's series traces directly back.

Can anyone recommend other good flicks in the same vein?

Yeah, Jacob's Ladder is a great film. Even though I could tell what the ending was going to be, from about half way through the film. I loved the way that reality shifted, and you weren't exactly sure which version was real.

My friend told me the film had a "shocking" ending, and, after what had transpired in the previous 110 minutes, I was steeling myself for something absolutely horrific. It ended up surprising me in a completely different way than I expected.

Hmmm... speaking of which, maybe I'll watch the deleted scenes on the DVD. Some people say they drastically change the story, other people say they're inconsequential and best left out.

I've seen it, its definately one of my favorite disturbing movies (not that I like too many in that genre...)
From my POV the deleted scenes didn't change too much, but they were worth seeing.

For some reason this discussion reminds me of Barton Fink...

Yeah, Lynch sounds like the order of the day. I also still need to see Eraserhead.
