Default Computer for a friend.

A friend of mine asked me to build her a computer, and I'm having some trouble finding parts. All she wants to be able to do is chat, web surfing, download music and burn cd's, and the occasional game of the Sims 2. All of this for around $200-$350, including monitor (15" or larger), speakers, mouse, keyboard. I really can't find any computer websites with cheap enough or older parts to stay in that range, and it doesn't matter if parts are refurbished or not.

Sims 2 Minimum Requirements

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:

* 800 MHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:

* 2.0 GHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

Hmmm... have you tried http://www.froogle.comFroogle</A> and http://www.eBay.comeBay</A>? You might be able to get some used/refurbished stuff for cheap.

I saw an ad in best buy months ago, I could have sworn it was an e-machines with a 15" lcd monitor, keyboard, everything. 1.2ghz maybe. It was like $350. sure you say cheap piece of shit, but it'll do all that plus more probably.

keep an eye out in the sunday newspaper for shit, computers are getting cheaper every month.

And run Sims 2? Point blank, that isn't going to happen unless you find one hell of a deal on eBay. Even a used 15" will still run you $50. A video card that'll work with Sims 2 such that's playable is still $100 new. Mouse/keyboard is $20 if you go super cheap.. speakers the same.

That's already $200, without CPU/mobo/case/HDD/drives.

Tell her she's gonna need to spend the money if she wants a computer that'll run the game. =P
