Default Super Mario World Graphics Hacking

I was just wondering what program is used to change/edit graphics in super mario world. I've tried tile layer pro, but all i see is a big load of mess. Is it supossed to look like that, or am i doing something wrong?

It's normal. It's kinda like you're opening the rom in a hex editor, but instead of seeing hex values, you see 8x8 tiles. That's the way the graphics are stored.

Sometimes, there exists a game specific editor, which is way easier to use, but I couldn't find one for this game.

If I recall correctly, the graphics in the ROM are compressed. I could be wrong though.

You can edit graphics for Super Mario World using Lunar Magic, which you'll also want to use for any level editing you may intend to do.

(And yes, glancing at Super Mario World in Tile Molester, it does appear to be compressed, so you wouldn't be able to edit the graphics using a normal tile editor.)
