View Full Version : Alright! A perfect dental appointment

First time in about 3 years where I've gone to the dentist and don't have to go back for fillings or any other stuff. I already have 6 teeth filled and one crowned, so I guess I'm lucky for that.
Though I fear I'm one of those who probably just has natural decay despite adequate brushing.
At least it's still good news for today.

eep. I have two little fillings and one tiny tiny one. then I have a crown with a bar going into the root of one of my molars. that tooth broke and i had to get a root canal, a metal rod put in up into the root (for structure) and a full porcelain crown put over it all. you cant even see any of my real tooth. i hate dental work

yeah some people just dont have good teeth... no matter how well they take care of them. i have a friend who doesnt have the right amount of enamel on her teeth.... she's got an assload of dental problems. there isnt anything she can do about it, though.

it is possible to brush too much. some people are told to cut down to once a day. you should also be using a soft bristle brush unless told to do otherwise. brushing too much with a med-hard bristle toothbrush can wear down the enamel on your teeth, causing you to have more cavities and such. i know at least two people who were told that they were doing this... my mom and my boss.
on a side note, my mom hadnt been to the dentist in 20 years... she finally went, and she didnt have any cavities. the dentist just told her to stop brushing so hard. odd that i grew up with such terrible dental hygiene.

Yeah. Just like washing your hair too much can invite lice.

That's why I can't drink any cola products. They strip the enamel off my teeth. I used to have cavities every checkup when I was little, but they figured out that it was all the Coke I drank, and so I stopped. I haven't had a cavity in like 9 years or something. And now I don't even like cola. Well, Vanilla Coke is ok, but that's it.

I typically only do it once a day... Upon waking up is the time too. Though I do SOMETIMES do it twice.

I think it's typically better to do it at night if you're going to brush once daily.... that way you're cleaning up all of gross stuff your mouth has accrued throughout the day.

It can. If your hair is dirty or oily, lice can't move around, so they won't come to your head. If your hair is slick and clean, lice are more likely to settle in.

It's happy when that happens. I have bad teeth so it's not like my mom who's never had a cavity in her life. But once I had a bunch of dental work done, I finally went back for my first check-up that was 100% clean. Didn't last long. /wwwthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif 6 months later he found the small start of a cavity he wanted to fill.

well we didnt have very good hygiene growing up... or at least many of us. you were older so you had it figured out before me. i think mom kind of thought that most of us automatically knew we were supposed to wash our faces every day or change our socks more than once every two weeks. I didnt realize that until I was like in 7th grade. sure, i remember the charts "brush your teeth and hug your siblings so you can move a space up on the chart"..... but that didnt teach me to brush my teeth. if i didnt want a pack of gum in a week, i didnt have to brush. little did i know. i think most of us suffer from semi-bad teeth. Jared's are all fucked. He had like two root canals at age 10 or something. I think dad has relatively bad teeth, too, though.

I've only had a root canal, and nothing more (no fillings and whatnot). It was nothing that could be prevented, really; external resorption, where my body attempts to attack my own tooth. I'll probably wind up losing the thing in a few years, at most, which kinda sucks, but I guess it was worth it. *shrugs*

My teeth are bomb proof. I was a coca-cola fiend (44oz!) as a kid and often went a week without brushing. Somehow I have 0 cavities to this day.

Congrats on the clean bill of dental health. Bet it feels great.
The only filling I've ever had was a tooth that was loose anyway. It came out less than a week after he filled it and a new one grew in. Other than that, no teeth problems.

I guess that makes sense, but I could never bring myself to stop brushing in the morning. Probably part conditioning and part feeling icky. Don't have a lot of dental problems though, so hopefully I won't have to change things. I can definitely be a bit obsessive when it comes to habits. It would drive me nuts if I had to stop brushing in the morning.

i started brushing my teeth in the morning just so people wouldnt turn away in horror at the smell of bad breath at school. i still dont brush every morning. i'm usually pretty good at it, though.

i probably have a cavity in every tooth. one hurts really bad.
first of all, IT'S PART OF MY BODY. I'M ALIVE. WHY IS IT DECAYING?
second of all, whoever designed teeth needs to work at microsoft. they're defective. why the hell do you get cavities and decay and crap even when you do proper maint?
i hate teeth. die.

Good question! I have been wondering that myself. You would think that we would have evolved to have healing teeth like the other bones after so long. And my question is why the fuck are there nerves in them?!? Really what the hell. What could you possibly feel with your teeth other the cavities eating on them?

they should be like fingernails...you can't "feel" your fingernails...but the surrounding area (like your gums or down by your jaw bone where the tooth connects) can feel stuff.

That would be cool to have teeth like that. Instead of brushing we would have to clip our teeth as they grow in! I think rodents are like that. But if they don't gnaw on something then they could have an outgrown tooth.

They are indeed like that. Rodents need to chew on a piece of wood or something like that on a weekly basis or their teeth will indeed grow through their head....
I've never had a cavity in my life and I much prefer my dentist to gnawing on a piece of wood.
