View Full Version : PYP: For photographers, post your three favorites
Post your three favorite semi-recent photos. If you have a Flick or DeviantArt account, then paste a link to it.
Photo sizes should be less than 500px wide to prevent scrolling and keep the load times down for users on slow connections.
I'll go first. Here's my Flickr photostream (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dsobodash/).

what sort of camera are you using? It takes unusually grainy shots ;/
I have a D40X. I shoot freehand most of the time because I don't carry my full gear. When shooting freehand, a higher ISO is necessary to get down the shutter speed: otherwise there would be motion blur. When I have some money to drop, I might buy a new VR lens. Everything I hear says they basically replace a tripod for simple shots, though tend to gobble battery.
Long ago I had a Sony Mavica CD-1000, which had an absolutely fantastic vibration reduction system. It was so good I'm sure even Michael J Fox could handle it without a tripod. Shake only became really evident when I moved up to SLR with older lenses. The easiest solution is to use a high ISO to drop the shutter speed. I prefer small aperture shots for the depth.
As for the bird, that was a shot at dusk with a 210mm manual lens. At that length, shake becomes extremely evident. You really want a tripod for that, but we weren't allowed to take one through the security checkpoints. I was lucky to get so many clear shots of him even at ISO800. That wasn't the clearest, but it was the best pose.
Those pictures have absolutely no noise or grain reduction. I'm kind of wondering if perhaps the first one suffered more since it is an HDR shot done freehand without auto-bracketing.
Awesome photos, D-Boy! Hope you don't mind my sloppy work in your thread.

All these are up in my gallery (http://gallery.hcs64.com/main.php), I have a favorites section (http://gallery.hcs64.com/main.php?g2_view=keyalbum.KeywordAlbum&g2_keyword=favorite) for the particularly cool ones.
I use a Canon PowerShot A640, usually just in auto mode and pointed at things that look interesting.

after giving it some thought, I think this is more suited for Talk of the Town.

Not the most technically beautiful pictures, but they are the pictures I find the most interesting.
