Is this going to happen here? Imagine the serious threads being bumped over by moderators writing their thoughts on the Internet about the intellectuality of trolling or spamming. Deleting is the only possible solution...no contest. Don't close threads, and don't username-ban duplicate accounts. I've moderated forums where the ban list takes a long time to load because advertisers were only banned after a single post...how many do you think came back regardless? This whole moderating discussion is all one South Park episode.

That's what I've been saying for days. Don't participate in the idiocy, just delete the posts. I know, I made a post in this thread, but it doesn't hurt to laugh once in a while. More seriously mods, you really should delete the posts, instead of feeding the troll and participate to the idiocy. It only makes you look worse that the thread creater.

I admit I had a good laugh when I saw in the Internal Affairs forum Edman! Get the FUCK back in here! I was already thinking of South Park a while before that thread, but I would never let my taste for humor or personal beliefs interfere in a moderator position. I'll also admit I've posted technically nasty things on some other forums, but as a moderator I would delete it if I started it. If they don't have active moderation I'm in no position to suffer, but I respect this place.

look, once you get to know me, I'm not a very serious guy at all. I tend to do things that are more humorous than most. I'm also a bit more laid back. In contrast, there are mods that are all SERIOUS BUSINESS in our face (read: ngemu and 1emu), and I hate that to be honest, which is why I never go there. The nice thing about the Zd community is it's a lot more... lax, which is what I want it to remain. I like seeing people humorously flame each other and poke fun at the true idiots of the internet, which is funny becasue at one point I was a major victim of negative attention on the internet, especially here. You would think I would hate it, but eh I don't really, unless it just gets past funny and just plain cruel. In any case, that atmosphere of this community is what really sets it apart fro the rest and I wuold like to keep it that way.

You might find it funny, but a lot of "normal" users here find these posts annoying. I will never understand why mods are participating or feeding the troll. It's like, if your neighbour's house were on fire, would you go grill some marshmallows over the fire, instead of calling the firefighters ? The main reason why Alpha Omega always comes back is because he always gets what he wants: response.

You may probably see the fun-poking can easily continue in content that doesn't need moderation. As long as it's not spam, flaming, or in a non-general-chat forum or forum thread it's up to the community's tastes. I'm sure I have a good idea on how to moderate what needs moderating though.

If it is a continued argument that's on-topic to a thread but has heat venting around it closing the thread just confines that anger...that much I can confidently say. Again as far as the tense decisions go I can't guarantee I'll be accurate, but moderation here is just to fretful rather than lax in the other sense.

But, seriously. I'm all for moderation, but you have to draw a line between moderating and just being an uptight jackass. Me personally? I usually just sit back, let the drama spark up and then die down, and then make cynical, sarcastic, and witty remarks about how retarded everyone who was up in arms about (insert topic here) looks.

Now, then...if tempers start to flare, then I'd step in, because enough is enough. I consider racial, religious, or just intolerance in general to be grounds for a metaphorical ass-kicking by the moderators. That's just me, though. >=D
