View Full Version : Joining the Navy

There comes a point in a man's life when he realizes he's just been drifting along without any purpose and without any real goals. In a time like this, he must decide to waste away his life or to join the Navy and sail on a big boat! I chose the latter.

I'm enlisting on the 1st of October. I'm going into the fire fighting field and the experience in the Navy will definitely help me. I can't wait to go. That will probably be the end of my ZD career of actively reading these forums and posting occassionally. It's kinda sad as I've been here for like 6 years and seen so many people come and go and so many things happen. Oh well. c'est la vi.

Well, you can give me reasons why I shouldn't, but I've probably considered most of them.

To me, the good far outweighs the bad, but I'm always up for hearing other people's opinions on the matter. Even if I still join, it'll be good to have a heads up for certain things.

that's awesome. my brother enlisted around 4 years ago and he's doing awesomely. he worked really hard in training and now he can fix almost anything on the ship. he's also got a ton of electronics and misc. parts that he uses to pull pranks on people when they're out to sea. he and his wife live in hawaii. he loves being in the navy. it was one of the best choices he's probably ever made. it isnt for everyone, but it really worked out for him. good luck!

It sounds like it's what you really want.
Good luck, and you will be missed.
And always welcome.

I'm 19 now and work at Dunkin' Donuts. I'm giving myself 2 years to get my life into shape, find a real career or even go back to school. If, when I turn 21, my life is still a fucking mess, I am going to enlist in the Navy. I gave some serious thought to it and that's what I want to do. Maybe we'll be Navy buddies.

Right on man. I'm where you would be in two years if you don't get your life in order. After I graduated from high school I did pretty much nothing but take bullshit classes. I'm finally going to decide what I want to do and use the Navy to get training and experience for it, along with 4 years of free food and a place to stay.

Go Navy!

good luck man

the military is a good way to get a jump start in life, seeing how not everyone can afford college

whether u plan to stay 20yrs and retire in your 40s or just do the 4yr or so thing and come out with a gi-bill for college later

you get to learn more skills, have good bed and board, get respect and get paid

I feel it best to avoid the subject.

If he's already made himself comfortable with this decision I don't want to be all negative and ruin his optimism.

I wish you the best Narvi

Oh man... I always avoid Telegraph. It's always too crowded for me anyway, and with all those vendors selling random stuff.

You know that when you remove the R from your name, you have "Navi" left, lol. Good luck in the navy, dude.

"Not in the 90s, Austin!"

It doesn't count! Ok, phew. I'm not really gay and there's nothing Danoz can say to prove it since it doesn't count!

As if I didn't have enough reasons, now I have a golden one! I'm gonna use that one on my grandma.

"But Granny, my online nick on this message board is Narvi and if I take out the 'r' then it's Navi. This is destiny!!!!"

Thanks man, good luck with all your future endeavors too.
