View Full Version : Good Weekend

The door's closing fast on Summer.... I've been feeling the pressure to make the most out of the last few days, and sort of forgot that relaxing and letting it flow is what it's all about.
And sure enough, I had a great weekend without planning or stressing out much about anything.
Friday night, I went to a live comedy show with a few friends at the Encinitas Art Colony. It was only $10 admission and there were seven comedians. The highlight was this young guy Kenny Kane, who is probably the funniest stand-up act I've ever seen besides maybe Dane Cook. He was a 1000 word per minute psychopath who verbally assaulted several audience members- at one point, he was doing an impression of the way people dance in Arab music videos... I laughed so hard my side ached for the rest of the night.
Saturday night I went to Racelegal at Qualcomm Stadium, just as a spectator. My new car's not ready to race, but I got a chance to show it off a bit. A lot of the regulars remember seeing my old GSX win a lot, so there was some buzz about my new car, a lot of questions about what's being done to it, etc. Anyway, my friend Eric placed second in the final bracket for the night with his 2002 Subaru WRX, for which I have done extensive tuning. His best 1/4 mile was a 12.476 at 112 mph, beating a supercharged, NOSsed '98 BMW M3. Big props to Eric and all at Team XCalibur...
Today was the final Outrigger paddling race from Catalina Island to Newport Harbor, a 32 mile run. My team took third place, losing 2nd by two seconds to Hookalokai Team from Hawaii. I had to stop paddling after 18 miles because of a shoulder injury.
Anyway, a fun, eventful weekend.

My life's gotten a lot cooler since I stopped drinking and using drugs. I'm starting to realize that I actually have a lot more fun living this way. A year ago, I'd have been too hung over to spend a Sunday paddling for 6-7 hours under the sun. And I probably wouldn't have remembered the night before.
Now I just have to find a new woman to help me forget about my ex. Or maybe a few women.

I live 3 blocks up from the stadium. I doubt my Geo Prizm would be good for racing though, LOL

Dude, you should come check out the races. It only costs $5 for a spectator pass, and you'll see some insane cars break loose the chains of legality. Not to mention the live DJ's, women, and some excellent $3 barbecue burgers...
About your Geo, yes, you too could race! The beginner's brackets are packed with minivans, Hyundais, and all manners of crowd-pleasers

I wonder how well my 1996 windstar would perform...
it can hit 110MPH I know that
I wonder if I could get any more speed if I remove the seats

Remove the speed governor, yank off the cat and muffler, and fill it up with 102 octane
You should achieve at least Ford Escort-level performance

Today I worked on the car sommore. I installed the B&M short shifter, Apex'i SuperAFC, GReddy Airinex filter, and the whole catback exhaust system (RSR 3" straight-thru pipe, not a Honda fart-cannon).
Now it's pulling a LOT harder off the line... I love having a fresh new 4G63 motor to build on... It revs with such a healthy growl. I'd guess that with the simple bolt-ons I've done so far, horsepower is nearing 280. Can't wait to send it to RRE & get all the rest of my shit in there.

That's nothing. This is my 2nd Eclipse GSX, my old one being a '98 which I spent 5 years building. It dynotested 473 hp and over 500 ft. lbs torque! This all from a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4...
That car could do 0-60 in just over three seconds, and 1/4 mi. in the mid 11's. That's the magic of turbos & all-wheel drive.

You have a pretty good platform to work on with the V6 Galant. I'd recommend Injen's cold air intake setup for starters, not only will it give you a good 10+ hp, it'll feed your motor safer colder air and improve your gas mileage considerably. Then install a cat-back exhaust (bolts onto catalytic converter, goes all the way back to the larger tip), I think GReddy would probably be the best sounding one. After that, throw in an MSD ignition box, Magnecor plugwires, and a performance CPU upgrade... BAM!
...Your V6 Galant will spank V8 Goofus

* A car's stock intake system sucks in air through a plastic pipe with a paper air filter inside a plastic box. This is a terrible cost-cutting design flaw present in almost every car and truck. The air box is mounted inside the engine compartment where intense heat surrounds it at all times. In effect, the air being taken into the motor is blazing hot- and since it is under the hood, air flow is minimal. This does wonders to generate excessive engine heat, reduce efficiency of the air/ fuel combustion cycle, and rob your engine of a good 10-30hp all the time. Imagine trying to run a marathon with your head trapped in a box full of stagnant, hot air.
A cold air intake replaces this assembly with a metal pipe that extends down below the chassis. It's routed to a place away from the motor where cold air flows naturally (i.e. behind a grille or an opening in the front fascia). Instead of a paper filter in a plastic box, a high-flow cone style filter is attached to the end of the pipe.
This drastically improves air flow, engine efficiency, and in effect, horsepower. And cold air lets your engine make more efficient use of fuel during the combustion cycle; your gas mileage will improve greatly.
Even if racing and high performance isn't your goal, many people don't realize how good this is for any type of car or truck. And not a very expensive upgrade either ($100-$150).
Another type_x automotive tip.

I just picked up a 02 Eclipse GT. (I know the G2's are lighter and better but I got this one for a really good price)
Anyways what types of non-warrenty voiding upgrades would be suggested. Also what are some good websites for buying these.

U know I have never been to a raceway before. The way you describe it, I would love to go to one!

I would go through Road Race Engineering (http://www.roadraceengineering.com/3g.htm) in Huntington Beach, CA. Their focus is mostly on DSM (1G & 2G turbo Eclipse, Talon, Laser, Galant VR4) but they also carry mods for the 3G Eclipse.
Almost every other place on the internet is a riceboy accessory shop. Clear taillights and bodykits. Neon lights and decals.
