I'm new here. But not new elsewhere. I don't know for sure, but I guess I'm part of the Zophar staff, if not just one of the original supporters. Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself. So hi.

Well, I guess we're in similar boats. I really can't say I'm new here; I've had an old account on the wwwthreads, but I really never posted with it, and I've been a fan of Zophar's Domain since the early 2000's, if I recall.

So, without fany further blabbing, welcome!

Hey, guys. Long time ZD forumgoer here. :)

DynaShock

Yeah, I was never a long-time-ago ZD Forumer, but I loved the site itself and visited it often. Mainly because it was the only site that I could find at the time that had mac emulators, and a rather extensive archive of game music files.
I appreciate the warm welcome, guys.

Hey, guys. I loved ZD way back in the day too, but never really visited the forums. I hope the site can finally regain its glory, although that certainly is a lot of glory to regain!

My Name's Andrew. I signed up to help around my favorite Emulator/Utilities site, ZD. I hope to be active for a goooooood long time, and help bring ZD back from the grave.

Hi there. Let's start with stating the obvious - I am new to these forums. There. Now we can avoid any foolish mistakes (whatever they may be).

My name is Sam. I do have a full time job, so I won't be hanging around very, VERY regularly (that means I won't have it open in a window open ALL day), but I will be here as much as possible. I may be able to log on at work if I have no patients or any other kind of work. If I'm not mistaken, I may be helping out around here pretty soon (I like to do my bit for the web while I have some free time).

So, let's get started. Does anyone here remember 'Night Court'? I used to receive tapes from I friend up in the US (he always recorded them when they were on), but I can't get the any of the two DVDs over here (though I can try and order one off Amazon.co.uk, as there is a company that specializes in importing those kinds of things over here to England).

Anyway, hello. If anyone's curious, the '94' in my username is both the year I acquired my medical degree (no questions about that - I'm bored of people testing me on the web, either you believe it or you don't), and the year I got married to my wonderful wife Emily. A VERY special year for me.

Well, Welcome to the forums! Please try to visit more often than not so we can keep ZD alive!

Hi.

Long time ZMDer here too. Been here since 1996, with different usernames. In 2001, after watching the "Fight Club", I've decided to use Cornellius, which I've been using since then.

The new forum looks nice, and I hope that my friends on the old board will come here.

Well, keep up the good work.

Alan

I may as well post something here too. Long time forum-goer, once was a mod under a different nick many moons ago (not sure if any will remember, besides Richter X or Cornellius). Nice to see the forums looking like this, I don't think we'll have the same issues here as the old forums have these days. :)

So here I am, to bring back Zophar from the dead. It's been way too long, no offense though. ^_^

I would apply for everything, but my knowledge about emulation only goes so far. So yea. Anyway, I can do the forums, and make you guys some guides on how to start emu's and such. Not that hard.

Since I'm not working right now I've got plenty of time to test new versions of emulators, or keep track on new releases and such.

What else should I apply for?? Erm, no idea, cheats maybe??

Feels great to see Zophar return. ^_^

I'm new to the boards here, but I've been visiting Zophar since 1999 when I first learned about emulation. What a great time it was. I remember this site being number one for emulators. Let's put it back on top, where it belongs. ^_^

even though I sorta introduced myself in another thread, I'll run a bit of back story. I've been here since ooooh 2002 off and on. For the first part of it I was an idiot, but I've gotten better over the years. I too am hoping to see ZD go back to it's former glory. I think this is possible now with that fucktard sam out of the picture. Anywho here's to hoping that ZD will relive its glory days. I'll try to offer assistance wherever possible like in the forums and such. We'll see where it goes.

Hey DynaShock. Welcome to the forums.

I've been lurking around on ZD ever since...about 2001. Never registered in the forums, but I figured "With a ZD getting a fresh start...eh, why not?" So here I am. I asked Edman if I could help out, and he was generous enough to let me.

I heard of Zophar's Domain for a long time. So I thought I should join the forums. I'm new to this place and I have my own forum. I've been ROM-Hacking for more than 3 years and somewhat experienced.

I've been to many ROM-Hacking or Emulation forums and thought I should join this one too.

Wow, snazzy new forums. New Soul Calibur game as well, so Tira gets a new look too. If anyone knows an easy way to get an alpha transparency on an image with a white background like this, please do tell. Internet Explorer 6 may not be able to handle it, but anyone using that deserves to see broken pages.

Incidentally, I got this avatar on my very first attempt at it. I cropped original the image down until it looked right, resized it to 120 pixels wide, and it came out at 120x120! A little sharpening and I was done. It's also about 6KB smaller than the old avatar was.

Edit: Eureka! Remembered that I actually did this before (and even posted about it (http://pointlessness.freehostia.com/2008/march/story.php)), though it was a bit trickier this time around. It's also about 6KB bigger (30295 bytes vs. 24715 bytes), making it almost exactly the same size I started with (30757 bytes). This one should look good on any theme though.

mm, that's not my way of assisting. Nice spin on that though. I'll be honest, I'm curious as to what she looks like because *gasp* I like women, which might be something such as yourself would fail to understand..

also I'm going to take your maturity comments with a grain of salt since your opinion is rather biased since you are still butthurt that I called you out on your outdated emulators and your stupid reasons for using them.

This is the origin issue, then? Yes, so, I posted a lot for about three weeks, maybe, back in late 1999. Good times, good times. I remember this because every site shared a forum system and I used the same 'roneldo' to better effect on the board for zeroes unlimited, hosted on the overclocked site, which Zophar linked to every single day. I've always found the Zophar forums amusing, though, so I'm familiar with most people even if I've hardly talked to any of them (which you may notice I'm still not doing). The fights are classic. I remember that time Swampgas... I mean his name was "Swampgas." That's crazy. But one day just for no reason he posted a picture of his gun and there was a fight about that. The man is brilliant.

Hello everybody!
I received the news of the reopening of Zophar's Domain early this morning, and quite pleased I am with it, I must say.
My name is Hernán, and I hail from Argentina. I'm 22, and I love gaming in all platforms, and many genres. My favourite ones are RPG, FPS, and Graphical Adventures, although I enjoy most of the other genres as well, save for sports. I hate bloody sports, in real life as well as in gaming... :D And my favourite consoles are the Sega Genesis and the Nintendo Famicom. I love retrogaming the most, which doesn't keep me from owning a PS2 and practicing my Guitar Hero mad skillz, or being delighted by the immersive gameplay experience delivered by, say, Ico or Katamary Damacy. But for all of my retrogaming needs I have my trusty PC and my GP2X.
My favourite game of all time is Final Fantasy VII, closely followed by Snatcher. As you might have guessed, I priorize storyline over anything else when looking for "serious" gaming, but I'm also quite fond of the rest for casual.
Well, I think that about covers everything pertinent I'd like to tell you all about me, guys. I simply want to add that I'm delighted the site's back, and that I hope to make new friends and share good written moments with all of you and our hobby in common: videogames.
Cheers!

Who made the Swampgas inaugural SG logo? I thought that was hilarious. Unfortunately, my extensive image archive only contains the next-best logo, that which wears a hat.
http://www.bimshwel.com/awnaw/zdlogo-xmas.jpg

Actually, now that I think about it, who made all the fancy site-update-person logos? It was always obvious when people provided their own, but generally there was a visual consistency among them.

He not only updated it... he deleted the original. I could not find ANY version of the logo without a cat. 15GBs of files, and Sam probably decided to save space by deleting the useful logo. The only other version of the ZD logo I could find was Halloween style. One girl with good photoshop skills managed to get rid of the cat and recolor it to make it into the current logo.

Although I didn't consciously imitate any image when I shot it, I think it's a pretty neat idea of a photograph, and maybe someone else thought that. So it's just as probable that you have seen a similar pic somewhere else.

If anyone knows an easy way to get an alpha transparency on an image with a white background like this, please do tell.

I'd make the white in my avatar transparent too, but I'm afraid this way we wouldn't see Mario very well !

My turn for introductions.

My name is Dylan, I have been lurking around zophar's since... well when I first got into emulation! I believe this was around 2002 or so... I had also just gotten a ps2. I joined the forums last year sometime, and it's been great. I'm actually 17 now.

I'm into all kinds of gaming, My favorite system that I liked the most the day I got it was the Dreamcast, it also got me into browsing the internet. My most played system has to be my snes though, good times with that.

I also play bass guitar, I was in a band with some friends called "Panzr." My main thing in life is video developing, it's something I like to do and I'm good at.

I have a stronger interest in emulating the classicsbecause I have always liked emulation on the go. I remember first trying snesadvance on... my gba.
I currrentl;y use a psp for all my emulators to go. :P

a little off-subject... has anyone tried the new GP2x? the F-200? I'm interested in gettign one, but I haven't heard much about it..

That said, I agree with cipher (http://www.zophar.net/forums/showthread.php?p=80241#post80241). RaceSimCentral (http://forum.rscnet.org/) and Bike Forums (http://www.bikeforums.net/) use vBulletin, too, and I don't particularly like it either of those places (theres?), either. In the latest reincarnation of ZD, I'll be a "Content Manager" and will probably be working behind the scenes, for the most part, updating emulators, utilities, and such. If there's any particular section or emulator that you want to see updated in the database, please send me a PM and let me know (try to avoid filling the news queue with old updates).

Hey Geechyguy. I remember you. I know you remember me. :) And JadussD, hi to you too! And to clear things up, the websites went like this:

www.geocities.com/?????? (September ? 1996 - November 9, 1996)

Pre November 9, 1996, when it was in beta stages, the exact URL lost to the sands of time...

www.ziplink.net/~shadow5 (November 9, 1996 - January 11, 1997)

The beginning. The alpha and the omega. Well maybe not the Omega. Ziplink wasn't very kind to ZD, as they did attempt to shut us down due to bandwidth usage several times and we didn't stay there too long as a result. However, ziplink of Philly started me on my internet quest and for that, I salute them!

zophar.ml.org (January 12, 1997 - March 17, 1997)

This was the monolith link in 1997 before we received a true subdomain. We were still hosted by Ziplink; it was basically a redirect.

silent.darkening.com/~zophar (March 18, 1997 -November 20, 1997)

Not too many people can remember this far back but this was during our forming stage. We were still trying to figure out our identity, and silent.darkening.com graciously allowed us some space to figure it out.

zophar.internexus.net (November 21, 1997 - March 22, 1998)

It was during this time that we started undergoing major face lifts which would continue all the way up until the purchase of our domain name, www.zophar.net, and the moving to ZTNet, where we have spent the most time! Internexus went bankrupt on March 22nd and Zophar's Domain went down for five days.

zophar.malicia.com (March 27, 1998 - June 12, 1998)

We moved to Malicia, courtesy of Ubu, who helped us while we planned our final move to ZTNet several months later.

www.zophar.net (June 13, 1998 - present)

The move to ZTNet complete, with Lev (Zach) our hero this time... we moved forward as www.zophar.net The rest is history!

I have verified this with my own official 4 year ZD backup from 1996-2000. So... we had 6 different URLs until we finally settled on ZTNet and became www.zophar.net. The end!

Shadow
08-10-2008, 12:58 AM
Hi there! :)

My name is Shadow, but not the Shadow you might know. I'm the one who founded Star Trans back in the better days of the scene. Star Trans was a German Romhacking Crew. I was involved in the following projects:

Final Fantasy 6, SNES
Legend of Mana, PSX
Phantasy Star 4, MD
and some others... as romhacker, translator and coordinator.

I loved these times. And I was proud to submit many patches to Zophar.
I also liked the technical files which helped me to understand the deeper logic of the console architecture. In Germany I supported also the other groups like G-Trans, Alemanic, SKUSS and Enigma. As a special partnership I remember ManuLoewe who retranslated FF6 and other games. He was also known as Cyan.

You can't imagine how important Zophar.net was for us in Germany. It was _THE_ source for anything.

Congratulations to zophars relaunch.

Good day sirs/ma'ams/others. I am a complete and utter n00b to this site in any form. The reason I came to it was because I can't/won't get any new games because:

a) I'm broke, and
b) The amount of originality and gameplay over the years has disappeared into flashy graphics and GTA clones.

So henceforth I'm returning to the old skool games.

Basically, I like old games, not new.

I mean by "old" games as old generation (styled) games, but you make a good point.

Ratchet and clank is relatively new, IMO. Still good though.

I miss it so.

Seriously... I'm used to viewing other forums solely in flat mode, but ZMD feels weird to me without threaded. The vBulletin features page (http://www.vbulletin.com/features.php) claims "Linear, Threaded, Hybrid display views available". Can they be enabled here?

In any case, nice work porting the user info and posts from the old forum. Did the Diaries posts get folded into TotT? Also, I don't supose there was a copy somewhere on the server of old posts from the beginning of the wwwthreads board until 2002 or so? (At a certain point SG removed old posts from the database because he said the size of the database was increasing the server's processing load significantly.) archive.org has a number of those old ZMD threads, but far from everything.

Oh, and hi. I've been away from the forum for a few years.

Hey all,

As is obvious by my title, Reaper Man brought me on as the new Game Music maintainer. You'll see more of my antics after the New Year once I get back to my home base in Rhode Island, but I thought I'd make my presence known now.

Been a while. Where are the old school members? They might remember a Brooksie... I can't remember my password or email that's on it.

So you're guys? Missed ya!

I... wasn't expecing a positive response, given the way I treated you back during my idiot days.

I guess I'll fill you in. Swapfuck sold the site to Edman and this "other guy." Edman made me a mod, then later on he decided to make me an admin. Since then, the other staff members and I have been able to revive this site from the grave. As for me personally, I'm currently back in school getting my AA.

Also, do you want access to your old account?

The 9th Sage
01-29-2009, 02:03 AM
I'm still here too. I'm a fellow admin. The site is coming back to life a bit these days. Gotta say, last thing I expected to see when coming to the forum tonight was a post by you. :) It's been years...can't quite remember how many, but years nonetheless.

I remember you being an idiot... but... let's just say... I'm a little more mature in my 'old age'...

I do want access to my old account... You'll have to email it to the new email though:

Hi Z! Long time no talk! Probably still with the highest post count right?

I'm no longer on the meat market guys... I'll break that one to ya fast. I got hitched a bit over a year ago. Not expecting anytime soon, but we're 'practicing' none the less... We're not what you'd call big time gamers, but we enjoy them and our computer addictions as well as our outdoor lives... I own 4 horses now, so they keep me busy. And we have 2 dogs as well. So I guess you could say all our kids walk around on 4s still.

Not too bad guys. I was just playing a game the other day and thought about Zophar... So I thought last night while I was trying so very hard to do my classwork (and lesson plans...) _.|.. Ha ha...

That I needed to come see if I could even get on and if it was still around.

So here I 'is'...

You guys still emulating away?

Hi! I'm Toasterhed and just wanted to introduce myself.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'd say there is a good chance the answer is yes! :)

The 9th Sage
01-30-2009, 06:58 PM
Oh, well sure I am (emulating that is). :) I suppose my focus has switched more to emulating on consoles and handhelds though. There are some great emulators that run on Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS for example (Wii especially, what with PSX and N64 emulators in progress...very very promising stuff).

I will say I intend to see just how far I can push graphical quality in PSX and N64 emulators once the stuff for my new computer gets here though. I can't wait to see how far I can push things and keep a playable speed.

Oh really? What's going to be under the hood?

The 9th Sage
01-30-2009, 07:56 PM
Oh really? What's going to be under the hood?

Some way better stuff than this laptop has. :P

But let's see...mostly my goal was to make something affordable that had some nice bang for the buck. Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8300, a decent ASUS motherboard for teh overlocking, 2 GB of DDR2-800 PC6400 memory by Mushkin (they've come to me highly recommended), ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB PCI-Express x16 (nothing amazing, but no slouch either), 320 GB HD, an LG drive for writing of the CDs and the DVDs, nothing to speak of for sound...going with the onboard sound to cut costs since I'm not going to ever hook this thing up to sourround or anything anyway. Oh yes, nothing too fancy for cooling....getting a really nice fan from the company Thermaltake, who I've heard really good things about. Also, the case should have a temperature gauge on the front when I get it, which shall be nice.

I intend to install XP on it. In the future I might upgrade the RAM slightly, and I was thinking that since the motherboard supports dual-ATI cards (in Crossfire) that this could always be another cheapish upgrade for me to think about in the future. Was thinking of going with a Core2 Duo for the processor, but I figured I might as well go with one that is a bit beefier for the price.

Can't wait to try PS2 emulators on it (and actually, I wonder if SSF would run?)...I don't expect much, but they have way better chances of running them ok than this laptop from 4 or 5 years ago does. Either way it's a huge upgrade over this sytem. I bet I could even play PC games from the last couple of years on it well. :P

Brooksee
01-30-2009, 09:54 PM
Cool... I'm just really wanting to move up to something a little newer than a PS2 sometime this year... We haven't decided which, but I'm leaning towards a Wii b/c of the Wii fit game... I need to lose about 20 lbs. Anybody played it?

This is a pic from my wedding... I was 175 then... I'm 185 now... YUCKNESS!

Yeah, you look fine. Don't worry about how ya look. :) I have WiiFit...I've lost some weight because of it (and gotten stronger, more flexible and all that jazz). I'd recommend it because one of my huge issues was staying focused on doing this work out every day, and WiiFit has helped me a lot in that way (besides, the yoga is awesome).

Greetings from the land of tomorrow.

I enjoy every facet of gaming, and love Zophar's Domain due to the vast amount of knowledge that resides in the site and the people who run it.
I have been to this site many times, and only recently was aware of ZD's revival, which I had been hoping for for a long time.
I have been to this forum before, when I was immature and annoying, and I return a more enlightened person.
I was once known as Soniczip; I shed that name (along with my pettiness and bad forum etiquette) long ago.

Just stopping in to say hey, can't believe this site is still around! I think I remember waaay back when it first went up.. how many years has it been going now? Is Zophar himself still running the show?

I got into this when I believe the NES emulator we used was Famicom (?) and SNES emu's were just being created.. Emulator popularity was about to explode.. ran a small little emulation website myself

VSMC.. when he finally got that one running at full speed (but no sound yet) it blew us all away! I see SNES9X and ZSNES are still the top emu's?

And of course UltraHLE.. I had to change my underwear the day I saw Zelda64 load up!

I've been away from Emulation Heaven for too long :)

Reaper man
03-03-2009, 09:15 PM
Zophar hasn't headed this in yeeeeaars. He gave it to some idiot, the idiot drove it to the ground, then the idiot did the only smart thing in his pathetic life and sold it to someone who actually gave a damn and here we are.

I'm also merging this thread to the introductions sticky.
