Hey everyone! Last year, I downloaded the GBS plugin (plays music from Game Boy games) for Winamp but never could figure out how to get it to work and eventually gave up. Now I've returned with a bit more determination, and I need some help.
Basically, whenever I try to play a playlist from a game (say, Zelda: Link's Awakening or Metroid II), it'll play track 1/96 (or however many tracks there are)--but with no option to skip ahead to the other tracks; I can only listen to that first one.
Now the NotsoFatso (sp?) plugin on Winamp for NSF files from the NES has a way to do "shadow tracks" that show all the tracks and let me play whichever one I want in whatever order I want. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this with GBS files too? Thanks!

Use the keyboard shortcuts to skip forward/back (that's B and Z, btw).

I know of no such plugin. I wish other chip formats had a plugin on par with NotsoFatso

Wow, that simple? Thanks!
Now I have a different question. How do I edit the file name in Winamp when I have it in a playlist? I can't figure out how to do so in a way that keeps the file intact and working.

If you want to change the name that gets displayed in Winamp, you'll have to edit the file's header. This is pretty simple to do with a hex editor (if you need one, grab http://www.romhacking.net/?Category=&Console=0&Game=0&Author=0&Recm=&Level=&utilsearch=++Go++&title=windhex&dsearch=&page=utils&action=utillistWindhex). Just open it up and you'll see the display name. Make sure you use overwrite instead of insert (that is, don't add any bytes, just overwrite the ones that are there). Make sure to make a backup before you tinker with it.

Well, it almost worked, in that it changed the file name without messing up the music. But the name is cut off, apparently because it's too long. (I'm trying to type in "The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening," whereas it cuts it off at "Awak".)
So how can I get the hex editor to lengthen the name?

The header only allows titles up to 32 characters in length. If you wrote in more than 32 characters in the file, you were writing over some other field (the "composer" field is next).

Not possible, sorry. Shorten your title (use 'TLoZ' or something).
