I am having a bit of a problem with a save I got from here. I extracted it into the folder where I thought all my other saves where but it is not seeming to work. I changed the name of the ROM I am using to match the name of the save I thought I did that right but in the game load screen in my emulator it still shows as the old name. I am using zsnesw151 emulator. I am not sure how to get this working can someone help me please?

ZSNES displays the name from inside the rom image itself when it is loaded, not the filename of the rom, but having the same filename for the rom and save file should still work.

I still can't get it to work tho. How do I get the save to work. I think I put it in the right folder but I don't see how to get the save to work. Do I unzip the folder with the save in it or not? I unzipped it.

Save must be in same folder as rom

Save must have same filename
(ie: supermarioword.smc supermarioword.srm)

Note: a save file is automatically generated when you close ZSNES. Make sure that the save file you are trying to get working isn't the one that ZSNES generates.

Ok I am confused the ROM I have has a .sfc extension will that make it not work? The ones you have up there are .smc .srm

Rom file extension matters very little, assuming the rom works. The savefile is an .srm file, however.

Newer versions of zsnes require you to set a folder path for your save games (it is in one of the menus). By default, the srm are searched in the zsnes dir, not the rom dir.

Name the rom the original name is was with the smc ect, now name the savestate the same as the rom with the an srm extension. Now play game and then I believe it is change state if I remember right and it'll find the saved game.

You may also have a corrupted saved game. I think some saves from older versions of some emulators don't always work with the newer version of that emulator. Also if a game is saved from one emulator it doesn't mean it'll play in another. Like say you were using one snes emulator and a save file was taken from another emulator. Even with the same game and save it very well could not work.

These are just guesses and I could be wrong on some points and if I am someone correct me.

Yes I know to make the names match but what I don't know is how to get the save to work. I put it in the folder with the roms not working I don't know where else I would put it. I need the instructions to get saves to work step by step like I said.

This is a screen shot of where I put the save files and where the rom is

As I said, don't put it on the rom folder, put it on the zsnes folder.

Edit: oh, you are using the savestate feature. You have to load it while playing the game by clicking Open State in the zsnes menu.

Please do not that the savestates from this website were created using *older* versions of zsnes, which might not be compatible with your version, making it even possible crash the emulator in the worst case scenario.

I'd suggest download savegame files instead, like *.srm files, which are version and emulator independent (ie, you can update your emu or use another, and the savegame will be valid).

It *might* work. If I recall, something they were working on recently is imporving support for old save state formats (from previous Zsnes versions).

Oh good. I was right about the savestate and incompatibility with older versions. Thanks for writing that, I really wasn't sure if my memories of that were correct in any way, but since you and Ian say so I know it's true. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>
