PRoblem w/ Hacks

Ive been having a problem with playing the hacks I download. Everytime I try to play it it states invalid format. Can someone help me out?

The hacks are probably .ips files. .ips files are not ROMs which can be run in emulators -- rather they're patches which apply to an original ROM file to change that ROM into the hack.

1) Pick up a copy of the original ROM
2) Make a copy of it
3) Get an IPS patching program (I recommend Lunar IPS)
4) Use said program to apply the patch to the ROM
5) play the ROM

I did that and now my emulator is shutting down on me. I tried it for an A link to the past file.

Make sure you have the proper ROM version. A lot of patches won't work unless you have a specific dump.
