I hear a lot of people talk about how the Wii cannot possibly win this console war because it's graphically inferior to its opponents. This usually comes from Sony fans.
To them I often say, "Hey dumbass, PlayStation's graphics were grainy and shitty compared to N64 and it won. Also, out of the three systems this last go round, PS2 was the weakest again and it won."
Sheesh, can't people remember anything?

The Playstation and Playstation 2 won because they had by and large the best RPG selection for all of the consoles at the time. That's also why the SNES won during its time as well.

To further the "graphics don't matter" point, PSP's graphics far exceeds the DS's, and the PSP is getting fucking CRUSHED by the DS in sales.

Man, I love my DS but the PSP would've done a lot better if it used some kind of solid state memory rather than UMD. Load times are atrocious.

Indeed. In the wrestling game I bought a good while back, the loading takes far longer than the actual matches.

It may be coinidence, but it's also something that goes all the way back to the NES. In each generation, whichever console had the best quality and quantity of RPGs has won out.
On this, the PlayStation 3 wins for JRPGs and the Xbox 360 wins for total RPGs at the moment. The Wii comes dead last for both right now.

I think its because all good RPG games are usually third party, and third parties support the system which will make their games reach a larger audience.

Actually I think it might actually be which system gets Dragon Quest. I mean the only other RPG with that kind of inane fanship in Japan is Pokemon. I see it like this NES got DQ instant win, SNES got DQ easy win, PS got DQ due to failings of N64 and Square turning Enix off of Nintendo and Sony wins, PS2 got Enix support from the get go so DQ for the win, Like wise GBC got DQ and creamed WSC with FF, and now where set up for DS with DQ to cream PSP with FF(although one would note DS has FF although in remake city).
In this scenario Wii might win with DQ if DQ Sword is comparable to DQ8 and not gimmicy and draws full main series DQ support, plus it might help if Nintendo realizes what they really need is a supstanial Pokemon RPG on their console and not just all those short colluseum deals.
In reality yes PS3 look best in RPG with the shown off Supstantial games of FFXIII & White Knight, where as Wii has a sequal to gimmicy periferal game with the DQ name and a sequal to a rather failed gimmicy side game bearing the FF name and have show little of either. Sure mysterious was alright at first but at this point it's rediculous DQSword is suposed to be a launch title, at least in Japan, but no media now what are they thinking. And no media of FF:CC for Wii to show it beter and more supstantial where it counts than perdocesser, in consceivable.

Ummmm..... are you feeling all right, Akane?
By the way, the PS2 only got DQVIII, and it was 5 years after they launched it. That would have no bearing on the console war.
I believe the PS2 only got 1 real Final Fantasy game.

I mean, turn-based RPGs are really for a niche audience. The only series that has really gained mass appeal is Final Fantasy and that didn't really start until FF7. The only people I know into Final Fantasy are hardcore gamers, and as they get older they don't have 70+ hours to put into a game.
That's why I think Wii is going to do so well, it has mass appeal. With its games you'll be able to have fun and filfillment from 30 minutes of play. Much more practical with the world we live in.

Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
Final Fantasy XII
While arguably there's two games there that are not "True" Final Fantasy games, there's another two there that are. So stfu.

Yes and no you see
NES; Dragon Quest 1, 2, 3, 4
SNES; Dragon Quest 1&2(port), 3(port), 5, 6, Torneko
PS; Dragon Quest 4(port),5(port),7, Torneko 2
PS2; Dragon Quest 8, Torneko 3
GBC; Dragon Quest 1&2(port), 3(port), Monsters, Monsters2
GBA; Dragon Quest Monsters 3; SlimeMorimori(Heros 1), Terneko 2(port)
DS; Dragon Quest Monsters 4; SlimeMorimori 2(Heros 2)
Wii; Dragon Quest Sword 2
As you can see there are 5 Dragon Quest series: The main numbered DQs, the Pokemon styled DQ Monsters series, the DQ4 related dungeon rover Torneko, The odd Mascot series SlimeMorimori/Heros, and the DQ Sword series. Even if the PS2 only had one, if Terneko is to off sides for you to count, it had 1) backward compatablility with PS 2) Enix suport form the get go and they even admitted it would be the home of the next DQ game/s. The anticapation is enough for some people and companies to say hey lots of gamers all across Japan are going to get PS2 in anticipation for the next DQ so we'll put out our random less known game here. This combined with pure FF support is what swamped PS2 and left GC a desert of baroness. Sure one could argue a case for FF being the winner game but why the WSC & curent PSP fate, is that because FF isn't enough to win over DQ & Pokemon combined?

Oh that what it was, I kind was thinking just because DQ4 was dropped in english and the DQ5 cropped up. So I didn't bother to check info. Either way I completely forgot the DQ Monsters 1&2 port, actually was thinking that there was some port from low system to high after 16bit era but couldnt remember.
Oh I think we both forgot DQ Yangus as a hole if it wasn't abanoned, because of less intersest in the PS2 in Japan.
