View Full Version : Carded for Sudafed and other products

Just curious if any of you have run into this. Basically, starting back in early April, all stores are apparently supposed to be carding people for products containing sudaphedrine as there are lowlives who can use it to get high and there are apparently desperate illegal drug manufacturers.
The process basically involves taking the ID and getting information off it including the license number, the state, and the date of birth. This is done to track an individual's buying record and the sale can and will be refused it too much is being purchased in a short period of time.
Failure to provide an ID or failure to be over 18 result in immediate refusal of the sale. No exceptions. No sending children to get your medicine anymore.
Some known products that will require ID are certain types of Sudafed, certain types of the generic version of Nyquil/Dayquil, and some of those Alka Seltzer gelcaps. I'm sure there are others.
So have you experienced this yet? Make sure you've got an ID as your sale MAY be refused. Go somewhere like Honest Bob's Drugs if you don't want to carry an ID.

I got carded for buying a anti-histamine for my allergies...and I look over 30. I guess it's the price to pay to make it harder for meth addicts to make thier precious meth...or whatever drug they are making with the stuff.

The age doesn't really matter. What they want is to make sure you're not buying insane amounts of medicines to make drugs with them.
I saw a lady get carded last saturday. Weird.

Pseudoephedrine is used by trailer-park dwellers to make methamphetamine. It's a rather easy (but dangerous if you fuck up) process that anyone with shitloads of Sudafed, lye, anhydrous ammonia, red phosphorous (from matchboxes) and a few other chemicals can make.
Meth is very serious shit. I don't really support its control, but lets just say that I think that meth users are some of the most fucked people on earth. If you use meth, I'm staying way the hell away from you. I don't want anything to do with you, I consider you persona non-grata.
Word on the streets is that meth has finally hit the Chicago area, after dwelling in rural Illinois for so many years. This is going to be ugly...

Somehow, I'm not surprised. <img src=smilies/laff.gif>
On a lighter note, after experimenting with some of that Grecian formula shiz, I was recently carded when I bought beer. The girl, looking surprised, offered to set me up with her mom. What a nightmare.

I'm 20 and I've been carded three times in my life. Once when I bought cigarettes, once when I bought the game Black at Best buy, and once when I bought a lighter. My friend was also carded because he was with me.
I almost laughed in the cashiers face at BB.

i've never been carded in my life. The only thing i would get carded for here is fucking cigarettes. You need to be 19 to buy it in my county, which is total horse shit, cause i just drive another 20 minutes from my house and i can buy as much as i want. It really is bullshit.

I've seen a few posts about being carded for games. I must ask: Are you serious?
I haven't gotten any new games in stores for a long time (mainly due to having a 4 year old system...) . I have ordered online a few times. It'd be funny if they tried to implement online carding.

Exactly. They use the license to obtain info and keep track. They don't care what you look like.
If you use your ID to get stuff for someone else, then the records go on your ID.

This has been going on in Oklahoma for at least the last few years.
People are buying the shit to make meth, like JadussD said. It really sucks that a pile of druggie assholes have to make everyone else's lives miserable.

That's the case for everything. It's always "a pile of x" or "a group of x" that makes life harder for everybody else. Same happened with mp3's, same happened with pirating movies, etc etc ad infinitum.

Wal*Mart prompts the cashier to check for ID.
Something like

IS CUST 17?

Yes, they are. A bunch of soccer moms who have no business in this keep bitching about minors buying games rated M... so stores card buyers to make sure they've got the age.
Hell, I look almost 30 sometimes and I still get carded.

It won't be done, at least not easily. If you pay via credit or debit card, that's the same as carding you. They assume that you're over 18.

Someone apparently bought stuff at the store I work at for this specific purpose. I think it was before I worked there...anyway, they got away with it for awhile, then I think the store called the police and they said they were aware of what she was doing as she was a well known dealer of things such as Meth. O_o I'm pretty sure they arrested her not long after that.
So these things do happen.

I don't know about carding, but in my state, meds that can be used in meth production are kept behind the counter now and you have to ask at the pharmacy or customer service counter in order to purchase them. I don't mind this practice, nor do I really mind the idea of being carded. Meth is a pretty serious problem here, and if measures like this can help cut down on it, so be it.
