I was watching Jim Rome is Burning, and low and behold I find out that Dateline of all the shows out there, pulled a stunt by reporting that a NASCAR track was denying access to "people who look Muslim."

While I don't know the entire story, it was basically an attempt to get ratings.

I always hope that journalism was legit, and most of the time it is. But when shit like this happens, it defaces the entire profession. This bullshit needs to stop...

The entire profession is already defaced.

Except for the Internet Pedophile stings. They rock....and they're getting more accomplished than the government and law enforcement is.

tv news shows are just another form of entertainment. no more important than some action movie in theaters. it gives you shit to talk about to coworkers or internet peoples, and has no effect on your life. so who cares if it's all made up.

A couple years ago I decided not to watch TV news or really very much TV in general. I don't miss it. At all. I still check out CNN.com so I can 1) Get a feel for the most obviously newsworthy things happening and 2) Know why people I talk to won't shut up about X or Y when I don't see it as that big of a deal...like the fact that some hot woman who lives 2000 miles away was brutally murdered, or that yet ANOTHER killer pedophile is following the long killer pedophile tradition of kidnapping, raping, and killing some kid whose cute, heartbreaking face they can spray all over the media. Yeah, it's a monstrous thing these people are doing, but is it newsworthy on the national level?

It's the news media realizing that the average person gets bored by "important" news and wants their little heartstrings to be pulled.

You hit the nail on the head...but I like seeing the bad guys get caught. The only news program worth a shit is Meet The Press.

I haven't watched the "national news" in probably 2 years, or any news magazine shows in the last 5 or so. I wouldn't have even known about this if Rome or Around the Horn (mentioned the story the next day, Friday April 8) hadn't mentioned it. You know it's bad if ESPN is bashing a news channel... <img src=smilies/upeyes.gif>
