View Full Version : What I did last night.

So, I'm over at a friend's house, and man, did we do some exciting things last night. At about 12:30AM, we decided that we wanted to go walk to a nearby convenience store and get some Jay's Hot Stuff potato chips. So we walked about a block and a half, entered the convenience store, and went to the nice big shelf of chips. Then I noticed that it was $3, and that struck me as too much for a bag of potato chips. So then, we left the store and went to a gas station across the street, not realizing that it's closed. Then I told my friend about the movie Gummo on the way to a Mexican restaurant that was still open across the street. Then we ordered tacos, picked them up, and left. Then about 3 hours later, I realized I really, really wanted Jay's Hot Stuff, so we went back and bought some. Then we played Starcraft and watched Computer Boy.
What did you do last night?

The boys were over as usual. Gator, Ross and I had our fill of drinks. Eventually watch Resident Evil on dvd. Fell asleep, and somehow made it to my bed.

Ate pizza and watched Simpsons episodes, then said goodbye to my boyfriend (he went home for the weekend). Got some work done after that - finished revising a poem that I'm entering for an award in my department, started writing an essay about themes of escape and war in post-World War I poetry, and finished reading 'The Roots of Evil' by Staub, which is about the origins of genocide.
Then I slept... not enough though... had to get up for my 9AM dining hall shift

I do what I usually do. Sit at home and stare at source code, not knowing what to do with it.
I want to do other things, but I just can't afford it right now. The lumber industry just took a severe dive and they're shutting down the sawmill my dad works at for a good while. Thank god I have an HMO.

i have 2 questions...
1 - what caused you to have to do that?
and
2 - did you make sure it was an unconditional format (with the "/u" command if you did it from DOS, like i did)?

Worked, watch rain come down in torrents, waited to leave after clocking out when the 3/4 inch hailstones came down. That didn't last long, though.

Stupid virus or something. Never found out what it was. I do though remembering that I believe I got it from some Phyton thing. I typed in "License" outta boredom, and it said something to the extent of me now having the "W32.VirtualSpace.VBS" virus or something similar. It could've been that, or my horrid downloading habits that brought me to that virus hell. But nonetheless, I noticed my system was slow. So I reformatted. I reinstalled windows. Still was REALLY slow. So I reformat again. Still slow. Reformat yet again, and this time Windows95 decides to install in 8.3 mode. Gah. So I reformat again and try again. Still. So after the 16th or so time, I do a fdisk /mbr with it. And I reformatted, and the problem was fixed. Gah.

I owned my Yalie friends in Trivial Pursuit, then we had some ice cream, and then tried to play baseball in the dark.

Went to the track after work, came home and made pesto pasta and chicken for my girlfriend, drove to Huntington Beach to go to Liquid Lounge, danced all night, nearly died in a car wreck since my girlfriend sucks at driving stick (and I had a few drinks in me, couldn't drive)

My car, you can imagine how scary that was. She probably was confused by all the gauges and weird sounds on top of not having any shifting skills. Plus it has a really stiff clutch. She has a Nissan Maxima with auto trans.

Until you have to park on a steep hill with a car right behind you and that's when you appreciate the ease of an automatic transmission.

It would have to be a pretty steep hill for me to wish for an auto over a manual.

Back in my day, we only had manual and all our hills were 90° angles, covered in 2 feet of snow... and we loved it!

Well you know, the fact that my parking brake doesn't work complicates matters a bit but I guess it's nothing compared to what you went through, Pudu.

Last night I worked on implementing more GPU functions and started fleshing out the GTE operands in MAME in the expectation of eventually getting working ZN support.

Word. I hadn't driven an automatic in years, and then I had to drive a Chevy Malibu rental car a few weeks ago. It was so strange, I kept imagining a little man under the hood shifting gears for me and stealing engine power to keep warm or something.

Yeah.
What's the most likely cause of it not working?

Pulling Dirty Harry maneuvres.....
The cable could be broken as well.
Also, if you have rear drum brakes, on many cars the parking brake shares the same drums as the rear brakes. If the drum is worn, the parking brake has a smaller shoe and can be rendered ineffective. I would have a mechanic look at it or the next time you get a brake job have 'em look at it.
