we just had a jock meeting at the radio station.
effective at midnight tonight, we change format to hot ac (ac = adult contemporary....80s, 90s and today's music. hootie and the blowfish, the calling, celion dion..etc). they fired the morning news lady (who is quite attractive, but married with kids), they moved the midday guy to the pm drive, and they moved some chick from our sister oldies station (there are 4 stations in the local family) to middays.
worst of all, they're doing love song dedications. every night. sunday to thursday. friday night from 5p-1a is an 80s mix show.
this is the first format change since 1984...the station was straight top40. #1 for 15 years.
i'm about 5 minutes away from getting a full time position there, but now i think i should reconsider. i hate 80s music. i hate adults. i'm the "kid's dj". i make them go nuts at the club each weekend and i sound good on the air when i'm communicating with kiddies.
the boss said that if anyone is considering leaving, just shake hands and part friends...don't badmouth the station and then have to be fired.
i don't know what to do...i have a strong loyalty to the station, a strong dedication to my work, and i'm friends with everyone there...
well, i'm on tonight at midnight...i get to introduce the new format. i guess i'll give it a try and see if i can stand it or not.
EVERYTHING i do, i always jump in at the end...so i never get to experience the REAL thing. i got into BBSes at the end. i got into irc just before it became popular and turned to shit...i got into emulation at the end...and now i've been on this station for 2 years (been there for 4), FINALLY am about to grab a full time position....and whoop...format change.
t-minus 3 hours until the change...
