Sorry to make a new thread about a similar topic, but just know I had to.

Well, I was looking at the reviews for YAAFM 12, and I came across this:

There are two lines I'd like to point out:
"You think that little attack against the towers was a big deal."
"Fucking jewish pig."

Is this what the majority of Muslims act like? Do they all hate America? Or as they say in YAAFM; do they need any excuse to fire guns, burn flags, stone people, and firebomb embassys?

Elazul had alot to say about this when he was still around. I could say far more about this and spawn what I'm sure would be an OMG EPIC BACKROOM TOPIC LOL but instead I'll just recommend you read http://www.samharris.orgSam Harris' The End of Faith for he expresses this far more eloquantly than I can.

I just read through about 9 of the first 10 pages of the book that's on the site. I must say, never before have I really taken a look into the Bible and found that it instructs you to kill anyone who tells you to worship other gods. That part is under "Excerpts" and inside the first 10 pages; it's blockquoted about 3/5 of the way down the page. I won't copy/paste it as I know some people tend to have issues with re-typing scripture outside of the Bible.

Thanks for the link though, CEpeep... 'tis very interesting.

No. The more violent, radical the actions of a minority can instill fear and hatred of the majority. It's a common syndrome. Happened here during WW II when we rounded up all the Japanese citizens and tossed 'em into interment camps (jail, basically).

Are you really that stupid? Of course that's not how the majority Muslims act, you have these kind of people in ever faith, nationality, and race. They want you to turn this into an "us and them" situation, the media is coving this so much because it helps a certain someone's crusade.

Dude, there's 1,200,000,000 Muslims on the planet.
That's 1.2 billion, do you have any idea how many that is? If you tried countring all of them one every second, you'd spend a good chunk over half your life doing so. It's freaking 4 times as many people as in the entire United States, which 'only' holds 3-6 million of them (which means there's about as many Muslims in US as there's people in my country, Norway).

Yeah, so let's say hypothetically 0.1% are extremists and wants to blow up your house and steal your bonzibuddy; those 1.2 million are extremely fucking vocal. You'd think that point was made with 9\11.
See, it's like bitching on forums in various MMORPG's, a miniscule minority that actually manage to change things because they are whining so god damn loud the developers can barely sleep at night. It doesn't matter, the vast, vast, vast majority of the players don't even read the forums, much less whine there about class balance. They just don't care.

In the same respect, the actual peace-loving Muslims whom you will never ever hear about are tired of pointing out every god damn time some extremist does something radical that they have no connection with it and resent it as much as you do.

What you're doing:
US invaded Iraq on idiotic premises; say, Sonic, you're American...are you an idiot?

Of course I'm not an idiot; as a matter of fact, I've never met a muslim. But hearing another review:

Most of the stuff in the Old Testament is bullshit. You have to look at the big picture of the bible. LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF. For example, it says you have to cut off your wife's hand if she grabs someone's balls in a fight. Another passage says you always have to wear hats all the time or you'll be stoned. A lot of this stuff is really complete bullshit.
The Old Testament is Justice-Based.
The NEW Testament is "Love thy Neighbor" based.

Not far from the truth. Even if it's not the "new church", stores like Wal-Mart are causing a global sensation as products from all over the world are available to everyone. Religion moves the same way. It won't be in our lifetimes, but when it does happen, economic globalization will be probably responsible for further religious revolutions.

Well, judging by the fact that tens of thousands of muslims IN EVERY COUNTRY IN EUROPE AND THE MIDDLE EAST are blowing up shit over a POLITICAL CARTOON, the fact that Jesus has been depicted badly for centuries, and the fact that you don't see any christians trying to kill Kayne West; I'd say that there are some idiots among them. 1. Abbr. C. or c. or cent.
1. A period of 100 years.
2. Each of the successive periods of 100 years before or since the advent of the Christian era.
2.
1. A unit of the Roman army originally consisting of 100 men.
2. One of the 193 electoral divisions of the Roman people.
3. A group of 100 things.

I fail to see what three sterile images from the last five years (probably even more recent, seeing as how you obviously just google image searched for it) shows how "Jesus has been depicted badly for centuries." I mean, if it's so pervasive, as you seem to think, shouldn't you be able to find specific examples?

I also see you didn't respond to my links, so I'll just assume it was too much reading for you.

I'm concerned that you think for a second you can make a religious generalization from a poorly constructed message board rant, and second that people here, in return, use your short-sightedness as an excuse to argue for moral relativism and American intolerance. Neither the post you've referenced, or the post you drafted here yourself is evidence of any greater systemic belief for Christians, Muslims, Americans or (I can't even believe I'm even addressing this one, as one of you mentioned) humanity in general. These rantings are uninformed and largely insignificant, as is this entire thread. Of course it will be used to spout religious intolerance and provide excuses to quote Sam Harris (who, unfortunately has turned my younger brother into an anti-religion/faith "jesus on a stick" rebel of anyone or anything that promotes faith and absolute morality. It fails to recognize the inherent reason and logic in morality beyond relativism. When the prison guard in North Korea recognizes after years of brainwashing that the dehumanizing, torture and murder of innocent people is fundamentally wrong-- we can specifically examine times when conviction and ethics supersede traditional relativist beliefs that morality is a mere function of education and cultural indoctrination. That morality itself can be the at the pinnacle of reason, and perhaps even embodies it. Perhaps this reason was mistaken for a modern and insufficient translation of the biblical word for “faith”.

Interesting, but I don't know about "Christians were trying to kill John Lennon". And, it seems like some key figures in the church decided to accept the apology and end the hysteria (which isn't entirely unbelievable, granted that there was a time when the "Beach Boys" were considered by Christian fundamentalists to be the carriers of Satan's message). It seems to follow the logic that when an animal feels threatened and backed into a corner it's instinct is to bite you. Clearly many felt threatened by this and took it to the extreme, but I suppose where we would differ is that I see the human error in this situation and not the error in Christianity as a belief system.

Christians were also threatening Ringo because they thought he was Jewish. If your next thought is that you don't wish people to associate these extremists with the majority of Christians in the world, then hopefully you'll see why I responded with that link.

The whole point here is that idiocy transcends belief systems. There's no more an error in Christianity than in Islam -- both controversies are reactionary nonsense and are really about politics, not religion.

Honestly, I fail to see how anyone can disagree that moral and ethics are relative. Culture shapes and governs these guidelines and they are and always have been changing like the waves in the sea.
You don't have to go far back in history to see 14-year-old wives (heck you don't have to go back at all in some places of the world).
The follow-up question is, "Yes, well....does it make it right?". What's right for you isn't necessarily right for others, laws are required so that people don't take that to extremes; the world isn't as easy as people who believe in the absolutes want it to be. Sorry, it's just not that simple.
It's annoying, I seem to always lecture about that, I wish people would stop adopting a black&white world-view. When it comes to people and opinions, things are never simple.
