i was just inducted into the Whitmer High School chapter of the national organization (which is rather prestigious) of Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honorary, it is sposed to represent something like making contacts, active community involvement, and great opportunities... who knows just how much anyone actually cares about this anyways?)
well... just thought i'd share this. for such a prestigious organization it sure is easy to get in. just be in constant enrollment of continually higher math courses and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA... but it is sposedly almost as prestigious as the NHS...

That's fairly interesting, but a good rule of thumb is that any awards or groups that you join in high school really don't matter very far past high school. I was in my high school's Beta Club, I received two awards in two semesters, but it really didn't end up mattering all that much.
However, I will say that being in a prestigious group such as that will improve your chances should you apply for a scholarship to a university once you graduate from high school. When applying for a scholarship, the university's consideration of you lies HEAVILY in extracurricular activities, so this could most definitely help you.

Yea I dunno. It's HS. Unless you're going no further than a Diploma, the only one's caring about your high school activities are colleges pretty much, because if you've gone to college, that's mainly what is looked at in the work field. Main thing is to keep getting good grades and enjoy yourself in school, and major in something you enjoy doing, especially something that you would tackle big challenges in head on. For the last 2 semesters in college, I've had a fuckin monster of a schedule, and it's eaten up all my good feelings towards math and programming. I hate both now. Well....programming is still sorta ok, but not math, and my grades are suffering because of my lack of motivation because of my new hatred for math. So while those organizations may be helpful on your resume later on, concentrate mainly on your schoolwork and go to college. Your college years will pretty much affect the rest of your life, whereas HS comes and goes.

Sorry. I actually have no idea how all of those societies of yours over there work.

i know this, that is why i don't involve myself in anything that i am not actually interested in. i really haven't received any awards, a few honorary mentions, but no outright awards...

this is the only prestigious club i am in... i am a member of whitmer's chess club, tho not terribly active due to Mu Alpha Theta being on the same day once a month, and i am a member of whitmer's reading club, which is one of the many upstarts i have chosen to support... i was once a member of Youth to Youth, but that organization is virtual useless to anyone anymore. and i had been a member of Nihon Bunka Kurabe (Japan Culture Club) before the japanese program was disbanded. (i will never forgive my school districts board for that decision which i feel was based entirely on prejudice against the american 'freak' groups and against japanese culture since they so vehemently fought the club from day one...)
but really i just do whatever i feel like. i manage to hold a smooth record of A's, B's and C's, do what i feel like and rarely study, and throw my support into organizations that the school tends to practice prejudice against... so i decided to join one that has full school backing for once :P

none of us are anywhere near as narrow-minded and we definitely do not think purely logical as our most ingeniusly moronic principal claims... during his whole speach i was asking myself how such an egotistical stereotyping bigot managed to get a position of such influence...

NHS. Heh. I was in NJHS. But as things appeared less like a society, and more like a charity, I quit. Hell, every thing is seeming like that these days. Mu Alpha Theta, well, it's goofy over here. You have to tutor. Nothing much else. Oh, and here, they hold a pi contest. Yeah, I know. The person who got the highest memerized ~550 digits in 2 weeks. Sweet jeeeeeeeesus.

Just in case there were any doubts, let me just go on record as saying that's not intelligence.
