View Full Version : Vulcan mind melds

Why do the captains always get so worried about Vulcan mind melds? They seem to solve every kind of problem and they never result in any kind of brain trauma. I'd like to watch a Star Trek where a mind meld kills both the melder and the meldee, then I may actually believe there's some kind of risk.

The real question here is why the hell did Wesley Crusher have more than 5 minutes of air time?
I mean Barclay was awesome -- and he wasn't even on the show as much as that freaking loser Wesley.

I like Barclay's character better when he returns for the Voyager series. I need more of TNG seasons... somebody buy them for me.

I didn't even know he was on Voyager. How did that work? I thought Voyager was like totally seperated from the Federation and isolated? How did they work Barclay into the show?
Note I only saw like bits and pieces of the first 2 seasons of Voyager -- I was never really that into it.

He was the one trying to get them back. They never really get out of reach and can get comunication back to earth.

Voyager got really good towards the end, I didn't like it much in the beginning and stopped watching it for a long time.

He played a key role on Earth in the "Pathfinder" project, the program created to bring voyager home. He played a great character too, he even sent a halogram of himself through subspace onto the Voyager ship to help them come home (with it's inherent plot device as the hologram is tampered with on the way there). He does a great job, especially when he creates a holographic voyager and succums to "holo-addiction". Diana Troy plays a pretty significant role in treating him and helping him when people doubt his ability to bring Voyager home.

I ended up being a fan of Voyager all the way through... I own all the seasons (with Enterprise and TNG). Janeway grows on you and proves to be a pretty dynamic character. Seven of Nine comes in 4th season and also creates some good plots in the show (after Kes leaves... which, there wasn't much more you could do with her character as she became more and more powerful). Yeah, Voyager is a great show... plus you get characters like Tom Paris and Chakotay, Neelix and Seven....

Sounds like a rehash of the first ep with him in TNG.

Only because he seems to suffer the same problems he's already overcome... but it's conceivable that he would relapse.

T'Pol got mind-raped by that illogical Vulcan in season one of ENT, which gave her some kind of freaky mind-meld disease (which was later cured by T'Pau in season four).
The Vulcan equivelant of being sexed up by a diseased hobo.
I love Star Trek.

Agreed, I did the same thing with DS9 and regretted it. DS9 got real good once the Dominion was introduced. But thing is about Voyager--the last 3 minutes of that series disappointed me. The series climax was a joke, I didn't like how the show ended.
P.S. Dwight Schultz is a fabulous actor--I've never seen him do a bad role.

Yeah, I was never into DS9 but after watching the reruns I can see what I was missing, I wish I had watched them when they were still new.

Come to think of it, it would be bad ass to see a mind meld used in an offensive mannar. I mean c'mon, who wouldn't want to see a Vulcan make some guy's head fucking explode using the mind meld technique of death. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>
