And it has nothing to do with politics, but more on the line of ethics.
By now some of you may have heard by now about former NHL player and current assistant coach Richard Tocchet has been implicated and practically (but not literally) charged with running an illegal gambling ring.
It's evolving into a royal mess for the NHL, for a number of reasons.
1: Last season didn't exist.
2: This is along the lines of what Pete Rose did 15-20 years ago. (Yes, it's been that long.)
3: This stretches out to many current and former players.
And in this mess, one man simply known as "The Great One" is caught up in the middle of it. Wayne's wife is said to have played a major part in this gambling ring as well.
Now when the NHL made some announcement's for the 2006-2007 season, Phoenix lost the All-Star game because of the Olympics. In a way, it's now good that there isn't any All-Star game in Phoenix this year, because this topic would be the one and only story.
I don't particuarilly care about what this Tocchet does with his money. However, I am annoyed that outcomes of games may have been changed because of this gambling. That's still under investigation. Safe to say I have mixed feelings about this whole thing.
The NHL did not need this when it's still trying to get a fanbase back, that's for sure.
