And that's Turner Classic Movies....

That's right, every Thursday for the month of January, it's anime movie showcase. Tonight was Spirited Away (strange) and Princess Mononoke (strange but good). They played both the english dubs and the jap dub with english subtitles. So for those "sub > dub" elitists, you can chill out.

Personally, I don't get why this channel of all of them is showing these kinds of movies.

FUCK YOU YOU SON OF A BITCH COCK SUCKING PIG DOUBLE FUCKING ASS RAPING "SUB > DUB ARE ELITESTS" DIPSHIT.

I prefer dubs myself, as long as they're done as faithfully to the original material as possible.

I generally prefer subs, but I don't get bent out of shape if someone says they prefer dubs. It's silly.

While I'm not a huge fan of Spirited Away, it's an ok film - Princess Mononoke however, is awesome. :)
Castle In The Sky is another good one, beautiful movie.

From what I hear, Miyazaki is way, way bigger than Disney over there in Japan.

Turner Classic Movie will be airing nine movies by Hayao Miyazaki in January.

The full list of movies will be posted here next week, but ICv2 reports that Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso, and Whisper of the Heart will be among aired (While Miyazaki did not direct Whisper of the Heart, he did write the screenplay).

Turner Classic Movies usually airs foreign movies in their original language, with English subtitles, however confirmation that this will be the case for the Miyazaki movie will not be available until later.

Yeah, that is odd, I was actually watching some classic horror movies on it the other night.

Yeah, I watched both dubs. I was waaay to tired to stay up and watch the subs. Besides, I've been spoiled by high-quality fansubs

Probably because his works are more akin to animated movies, rather than simply really long anime. Instead of creating his works with live actors and tons of CG, he does it with high-quality animation and modest amounts of CG. A good movie is a good movie, despite its medium.

What's the internet cliche now? "Quoted for truth"?

Now what anime fans need to realize is that a bad movie is a bad movie, despite its medium.

Miyazaki was inspired by Walt Disney, and is considered "The Japanese Walt Disney" by both his home country, and many people who have seen his films.

So I don't know if it's that he's "more popular" than Disney, so much as he's more popular than the Modern Disney.
