View Full Version : What are some of your "trouble" roms?

...And no, I'm not talking about finding them. I mean, do you have any emulators that you double up on just to play a particular rom? Say you use NESterJ for all your NES needs, but you have some obscure game that just won't work unless you run it in NESticle.

Anyone?

Actraiser 2 for Super NES. Latest WIP release STILL doesn't run this game again, you have to use a way older version of ZSNES or Snes9x to play it.

That's wild. I mostly play my emus on my Xbox, which I know are generally older ports. So, like, I can't play "Teen Titans" on the GBA emulator, but sure, ActRaiser 2 worked fine for me when I tried it...

Any specific recommendations on emulators for the FX chips?

I don't think there's a version of ZSNES for the XBOX is there? It wouldn't be portable without going through a bunch of hoops...sure they have the same processor, but the ASM code wouldn't work for calls to other hardware, unless the memory map is exactly the same as a PC's...hmm, is it?

You know, that was suggested to me, and I tried it. It didn't work. Now I tried it again. It works.

This may sound odd, but the original Super Mario Bros. If you press start at the title screen in FCE Ultra it does absolutely nothing. Bayou Billy is like that too.

I used to use JNES all the time until I needed Famicom support. Then I pretty much stuck with FCE. That's my alternate if I would ever want to play games like that.

Snes9x runs any SNES game I want. I use No$gba for any GBA playing, unless the emu crashes on a particular ROM being loaded (Like Golden Sun 2), in which case I use Visualboy Advance.

Connectix VGS runs most PSX games, and in the case it won't run a particular game (Like Ergheiz) I use ePSXe.

Sounds like one of the many bad dumps out there.

Shouldn't this be in general emulation?

Anyway, I guess the only one I can think of is FF6 and ZSNES. Still some minor graphical issues with that one.

and of course most PSX games with framebuffer effects are trouble ;p

I don't know. I got it from a guy who says it's the "true dump". I still have JNES if I ever want to play the original game. Same with Bayou Billy. It's not an overly big deal.

I just tried Super Mario Bros (both the PRG 0 and PRG 1 versions) on FCE Ultra and they are working fine here. O_o I'd ask this guy where he's getting that stuff from.

Heck, there's even a really good port of SNES9x to the GameCube. Saving to memory card and all kinds of good stuff.

I'm happy to announce BSNES plays it just fine. At least, I was on the first board in easy mode. ;)
