I got into an accident today. I was coming down Ridge Road towards Westbrook. As I tried to slow down in order to stop, my brakes gave out and I sailed through the intersection. I turned as to not hit the guard rail, but I lost control and ended up nailing the rail and taking out a mail box. I was lucky to miss the telephone pole and not get hurt. I notified the woman that I demolished her mail box, gave her my name & number so I can pay her back. Her neighbor, who happens to be a mail man, commended me for being responsible and honest as I did what was right and told the woman what happened, and offered to pay her back.

And the rest of my day was fine. Fucking Mother Nature and her ice! Damn her to Hell!

The right head light is destroyed. The bumper is damaged, the fender is destroyed beyond repair, the hood is scratched and dented, the paint on the quarter panel and hood is cracked & chipping, the fender drags on the front-right tire, the Lund deflector on the hood is destroyed. And I believe the wheel is not aligned properly and there might be some damage to the brakes.

To make matters worse, I just spend $677 on having my brakes totally replaced and having a new rear gate and rear windshield installed. My luck. Now, I will be broke for a long time.

Well at least you weren't hurt... did you check to see if maybe something was installed wrong with the brakes? you could sue them.. get money back for your car...

It's a '92 Chevy S-10 Blazer. I was thinking that once I get it fixed, I will try to sell it or trade it in towards a new Jetta.

Look into the 4-motion Jetta (AWD, not sure if it's available outside the Passat) if you live in a place where the roads get icy. 2WD cars are just plain dangerous in those conditions.

That sucks dude. Accidents in general suck, but you definitely did the right thing by fessing up.

I got into an accident about 6 months ago. It was a little fender bender on the freeway and I slowed down so much that I must have hit the lady in front of me at like 5 mph, but it still bumped her car and shook her up pretty badly. She pulled over and was crying and I apologized and even hugged her (she was really shaken up). I looked at my car. The plastic grill was shattered and the hood was a tiny bit dented. I looked at her car, no damage at all. Now, she could have been a bitch and claimed a bunch of damages but she said that I was really nice for actually pulling over and it turned out later that she didn't even report the accident to the DMV, just her my insurance company and she claimed minor neck pains. So, I didn't even get an accident on my driving record.

Being nice and doing the right thing pays off.

As of now, the woman has yet to contact me in regards to her mail box. I hope that I do not have to pay much, if anything, in damages to her. Looking back, I am grateful that I hit the guard rail and didn't nail the telephone pole, the mail box, and/or the barn (which was a few feet from the mail box). I spoke with my mechanic today and he confirmed that there is no damage to the truck's frame, but I will most likely need a new fender and the head light will need to be replaced.

After everything I've been through with this truck, and I've had it for approximately one year next Monday, I am going to get rid of it. Whether or not I just sell it, trade it in or sell it for parts, I want to purchase a more fuel-efficient vehicle that sports a working CD player.

Anyone interested in buying a '92 S-10 Blazer Tahoe LT with 140,000 miles? :)
