I'm seriously looking to replace my Geforce2 GTS, and I came across this website that has some good deals on video cards. I was looking at 4 different cards on their website, I just don't know which one is the better buy. Help me!

First off, Radeon 9700 Pro (http://www.showwow.com/videocard/item.asp?itemid=9208sw018888888820)

Next, Radeon 9600XT (http://www.showwow.com/videocard/item.asp?itemid=9208sw048888888810)

Nvidia FX6200 (http://www.showwow.com/videocard/item.asp?itemid=9208sw028888888813)

Nvidia FX5600 (http://www.showwow.com/videocard/item.asp?itemid=9208sw028888888811)

The prices listed on that website are in US dollars. I noticed the specs listes for the 9700 pro sound actually sound like specs for the 9800 non-pro, judging by what I've been able to come with on Google. Also, the 9600Xt is something called the Encore Edition. All I could find on that was that it uses TSOP memory. What does that mean? Anyway, of those cards listed which do you think is the best buy for the money?

Well, you don't have it on your list, but the best AGP deal for ~$100 right now is the GeForce 6600GT. It outperforms all the ones on your list, and supports Shader Model 3.0. I saw a new one on sale for $125 shipped somewhere, and I've seen used ones go for right around $100. Short of that, you can get a regular 6600 (non-GT) for about $70-80 that still beats everything on your list (it's a little bit better than that 9700 Pro).

I have an FX5600, and I like it. It's a good card, but Peepers is right, there are much better cards for just a little more money.

I'm going to upgrade pretty soon, probably going to try to go with a 9800 Pro or something.

I'd like to add an advice.

Use Nvidia if you plan to use Linux someday with this PC. If you won't use Linux at all, don't bother with this advice :)

i would recommend the 6800LE, but it seems that it was removed for some reason... the evga 6800LE was and is, for those of us who grabbed one in time, the best bang-for-buck. if you got lucky you could overclock it and unlock enough pipes to perform on par with a 6800 GT, which costs on average $350, for less than $200

the Apollo doesn't unlock successfully as often as the evga or leadtek models did ;)

I just made an order for two 256mb 9600XT's. I did a huge amount of searching Google, and it appears that was the best option for me. Total, with tax and shipping and 10 dollar COD charge, is $290.74 Cdn. Too bad I didn't have another 100 bucks or so, I could have gotten 2 128mb 9800 pro's.

Here's a link to the almost affordable 9800 Pro.
