Besides console controllers with USB adapters of course. I'd go with the original Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad. Many other PC pads have an annoying tendency to make it so registering diagnol directions is hard and make playing Street Fighter 2 or similar next to impossible. I did notice that one pad from the USB version of this pad seemed to have a slight problem with this, but the old Joy/MIDI port pads are pretty good at it and most of the other USB pads I used worked pretty well.

There IS no other! Man I had my original SW pad (Gameport version) for several years until the D-pad started giving out on me. Now, the USB version of that same controller is horrible. The Diagonal controls are completely useless and it doesn't have that same 'feel' as the original.
I use a PSX pad with a converter right now, but man if I could find my old sidewinder and fix it - Id use that all the time.

I found and bought a joyport Sidewinder off of some Amazon seller a couple years ago...I have a feeling they aren't impossible to find yet, and they're cheaper I do believe.

You're absolutely right. I found one on ebay a few minutes ago and bid on it.

The PS2 -> USB adaptors I've bought on ebay over the years for myself and family member far exceed any PC joypad/joystick. Using a PS2 controller vastly improves the experience and fun for every game I've played. Playing NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on PC is quite a bit better than the console version.
I'm lazy/cheap, I just use the keyboard. A = A, Z = B, then use the arrows (on my laptop) or the 10-key pad for the rest.

I used to have a Gravis Grip GamePad, but now I have a SideWinder Ver. 1. It works.

Same here, but could never get used to the "floaty" d-pad on it. I stick with a PlayStation USB adapter now after going through a few PC ones I couldn't get used to.

yeah I have a gameport sidewinder. I don't know if it's just cause I'm used to it after many years or if it really is that damn good of a controller, but I love it. I had a second usb one for an old laptop, but the whole thing got lost/stolen and when I got a new laptop I realized my usb one was lost/stolen with it. went to best buy in search of a usb sidewinder with no luck. did get 2 x 50 packs memorex dvd+rs for $17.99 a piece though

The Sidewinder is the bomb, but you could actually use a Sega gensis controller in that gameport outlet....
I bought a BETOP BTP-C024 last week as an additional controller to my Cyber 3-in-1 adapter for when other people come over. It works similar to the first-gen PSX pads, but the D-pad is a bit better than the crappy Gravis Games ones you find in the US.
It cost me about 12 yuan for a new one in Zhongguansun. That works out to about $1.50 US.

I need to get one myself, I'm sick of shitty D-pads on PC gamepads...

that one seems cool...allows to connect one controller of each console...

Heh. Seriously, I have used the genesis controller on a pc. Don't remember how I did it (probably Alzheimer's kicking in).

I bought a Macally airstick, and it RULES when you use it for SNES games. I used it for Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past, and it's better than using the keyboard.
It was really designed for flight simulators, but it works better on emulators.
YAY MOTION SENSORS!

This is the airstick. Weird controller for emulation, huh?

Will someone verify this? I can't find any information on the subject, but someone told me this once before. I'd like to find out.

I can verify 100% that he has Alzheimer's.

There is a USB Sega Saturn joystick made by Sega. It's perfect for use in emulators!!
It's possible to play all the old consoles with this joystick. The directional button is soft and pleasant to use, like the old Genesis' 6-buttons joystick. More, it has Left and Right buttons.
It's only sold in Japan. Here is the link:

I have one of those, it's fucking sweet. unless of course you want to play a snes game/psx game/n64 game (works perfect for nes/genesis/sms maybe? gb/c/a). then it loses a bit of that, given the button requirements for a psx game, and the layout for a snes game (sure, you can use it, it's just not a realistic idea given the shape of the buttons as they dont slide like a snes pad/psx pad). so thus i'd reccomend a psx > usb adaptor for your snes/psx needs. n64 emulation sucks so dont even consider bothering with that :P
