Hey, finally got one...Anyone know how to emulate SNES/GBA/Whatever games on it?

Please provide as much useful detail as possible <img src=smilies/cwm11.gif>

You need an old model for the emulators to work, so unless you have one... you're screwed.

For now.

Yeah, if your firmware version is not 1.50, you will not be able to boot unsigned code from your memory stick until someone hacks it.

How do I check this?

the system info panel in the software when you boot it up :P
i don't remember exactly how to get to it offhand.

Not technically true...what you should say is you need an older revision of the PSP's firmware. You COULD flash back to an old version of the firmware (I think, meaning I am wrong), but then you will be locked out from playing newer games released with the new firmware update in mind (meaning Sony is playing cat and mouse with the homebrewers and all the PSP Pirates, which is the part I can understand).

Luckily Nintendo doesn't seem to be doing anything major like Sony is to block that kind of stuff, so I can run homebrew just fine...apparently the newer Red DS's have a new firmware, but from what I hear it's been figured out, and it is possible to create a PassMe device that works with it (as the old ones do not). <P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by The 9th Sage on 09/04/05 10:09 PM.</FONT></P>

No, you can not. Apparently some goobs are supposed to release something like this in the next few days.. but i'll believe it when i see it. :\

Hence my "For now" comment.

I'd think it'd be possible. The PSP does it easily by itself....so it must not be having any hardware write protection, so if there is something protecting it it must be in the software, or unlockable by the software.

If they keep poking at it I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually, and then figure out how to write to it.

But if that is true, then why not make an update for the hardware so that it can play newer games, and continue to make updates to counter newer versions.

I'm guessing this is what happens when the firmware is cracked anyway, but I really don't know anything about hacking a PSP to begin with...

PS: I have 1.52...

Well, people can think a lot, but whether it's technically feasible or not is an entirely different matter.

You're right. There is something protecting it in software. It's the fact that the PSP does not run code unless it is digitally signed appropriately, and unless someone manages to find some sort of bug in the revision 1.52 and revision 2.0 firmware to enable people to run this unsigned code, it's impossible to flash the firmware, because there's no way to run code to flash the firmware.

there could be other ways of doing such a thing. I know there's a paralell port flasher hack for the NDS (meant more for those who fucked their DS by not following the instructions in the flashing program, but it could be used to just skip that program entirely)...something like that could be possible for the PSP, although that's getting more technical and more of a pain in the ass than just running a bit of code.

And yes, I know you can't run code on the PSP like that without an existing hack...I just wasn't thinking. It was stupid, I apologize mighty moogle. <img src=smilies/flipa.gif>

Yea, I was going to wait out to do that to my brothers PSP, but I was afraid of bricking it, so I updated. And if any of the latter firmwares were to be "hacked" it would be 2.0.

I'm just wondering if there'll be a modchip for the PSP soon.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
