I have a Vaio I'm looking to sell, so I can pick up a new iBook. I've had it for about two years and it has run well in that time. However, it does have a problem where it sometimes doesn't come out of suspend properly and must be hard rebooted. Sometimes when booting it stops while trying to initialize the soundcard. It always comes back after a few tries (this has been a problem for most of the time I've had it. It might be just a Linux quirk, I don't know). It's also missing a little piece of plastic that covers the headphone and mic jack area.

Here are some specs:

12.1" screen (1024x768)
Pentium II - 366 MHz
20GB hard drive
320MB RAM
1 USB port (plus one mini USB port, which I don't have the dongle for)
1 type II PCMCIA slot (cardBUS)
approx. 3 hrs battery life (triple capacity battery)
built in modem is fried

also has these features which I've never used and can't say if they work:
infrared, sony memory stick slot, built-in 10/100 ethernet (don't have the dongle), firewire port.

Currently running Debian testing/unstable with kernel 2.6.11 plus x.org packages from Ubuntu (can't say I notice a great difference between x.org and xfree86). I'd also include a 802.11b wireless card (prism2 Compaq iPAQ with antenna connector and antenna taken from a Linksys PCI card. Looks a little ghetto, but improves the signal), D-Link 10/100 card and a 3Com 10Mbps ethernet/56k modem combo card. Also comes with a SDF sticker :P

Remember when I bought the last laptop you were selling here? Well I've been looking around for a used laptop to replace it.

I'll take it off your hands for $120 + S&H.
Edited by hcs on 08/18/05 06:21 AM.

Yeah, I do remember that----this is a much nicer laptop. I was thinking more like $320. I've seen the same model go for near that with only the original 6GB hard drive, 128MB RAM and the 1 hr battery.

You're off your rocker.

I bought my P3 1.0ghz Dell for $265. $320 is quite a bit much. I sell P3 650 laptops for $300 at work.
Edited by JCE3000GT on 08/18/05 08:28 PM.

Well, that's not the same model Vaio as mine that you linked to; it has less hard drive space and less RAM. But yeah, maybe $320 is too much. Btw, don't ever buy an F series Vaio laptop. They have a heat sensor problem that cause them to shutdown b/c the sensor thinks it's overheating. I had a nightmare returning one I bought on ebay that had this problem.

I got the laptop from a friend and put almost $300 into parts for it. Kinda wish I hadn't bothered to upgrade the RAM now.

So, hcs, why don't we reverse those first two digits and say $230?

If this has a Lithium Ion battery this is a good deal.

Yeah, it's a Li-Ion; I bought it a little over a year ago.

Yeah, I did a double take when I saw all the RAM on this.

You've got yourself a deal. I guess we'll work it out over PM.
