Allow me to add my name to the list of frusterated college students that frequent these here parts.
My current situation: I'm going to be a third year sophmore next year with 56 credits. I have three gate courses i MUST takein fall, followed by two other courses i have to take before the department opens up to me.
I have only 1 general education class left i need to take (3 hr, Social science) and then have to choose between persuing a minor or taking worthless classes to fill in time.
That would leave me with 80 credits at the end of the year and needing to take summer classes (which i would pay for out of pocket) or 20 hours both senior semesters, including my exit courses. Otherwise it takes me 5 years to get out of college and I have to pay the last 4000 of my tuition out of my own pocket.
Then there's the problem of living expenses. In order to stop moving, I must A: rent an on campus apartment for $560 a month (80 sq ft bedroom) or rent a house from my aunt for $300/month. The tradeoff: the house is 40 miles from campus!
So there's the fun part: I either become a commuter and travel while working full time or work part time in a room I can't afford.
BTW, I don't have anyone paying my bills except me, a 19 yr old lab assistant on 6.50 per hour.
