...yeah. I successfully flipped m' step-mom's truck.
<dd>That sucked ass. I was heading in early today, around 6:45am. Coming up on a sharp curve, I stepped on the brake. The truck did not slow at all. I got worried. As I went over the five foot bank, I cursed. The driver's side window is gone, the windshield is smashed up pretty good, the roof is dented in a good long ways, and both sides are torn off. M' step-mom is gonna kill me.
<dd>First thing I did after the vehicle finished turning over and came to a complete stop was jump out, run up the bank, and flag down the truck that was behind me. He called into 911, and got transferred 'cuz all the more I took was an aching neck and a shot to the left elbow. Took the trooper 45 minutes to get there. Most of the time of the investigation, I sat in the patrol car. The back of the patrol car (why? It's impossible to open the door....). That was "phun." I got a $95 ticket for driving too fast on slick roads.
<dd>On the way into town, I found out from the guy driving the wrecker that I could've been hit with a long string of tickets, and lost m' liscence. Apparently that happened to somebody else earlier today, on a different road. This was my first accident, and first moving violation. I have until 11 March 2003 to pay it, or they issue a warrant for my arrest and I lose driving privelges until it's paid off.
<dd>My step-mom is gonna kill me, though I think she ought to pay the impound AND the towing fee. First off, it's her vehicle. Second, I had been telling her about the bad brakes and bald tires for months now, and she never did a damn thing about it.
<dd>Just thought I'd share my first accident.

I'm 39 and my first accident was 3 years ago, rear ended a brand new explorer with my 86 monte carlo ss, I only scraped his bumper guards and that came to $385, no ticket, but my front end was totally crunched, now I drive extremely careful in town and never come close to tailgating even when I think I have no problem, that accident taught me an expensive scary lesson so use a lot more caution driving, you might have killed someone or yourself and that would have been worse.
BTW - I'm very happy you didn't get hurt badly. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

ya think? hell one of the radio stations has a whole section on Jacksonville driving... Road Rage, Planet Radio 93.3 5:00PM weekdays

greeaat... I'm already nervous about driving... AND paranoid in general... yeah... I'm gonna die

I'm glad you are ok. That sucks about the truck and the ticket.
I can sympathize with you only from the standpoint that driving in snow and ice sucks! I avoid it when I can. I've never been in an accident but I've endured some scary road conditions where I thought for sure I'd end up in a ditch.
See what your step-mom says and maybe she'll go half with you on the damages if her tires were really as bad off as you say, then that seems sensible.
Most of the time on slick roads, you want to try and slow down naturally with little to no use of breaks. Sometimes that means driving a lot slower. Of course these things can't always be avoided and that's one reason so many accidents occur during bad weather.

That's a huge mistake right there...braking and ice do not mix. Guess you found that out. <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>
My first accident I was 18 and I was driving down SH121 going the speed limit (which was 60) and this 1980's Ford F350 4 door pickup hits me head on going 45mph the cops say...needless to say my little dodge was totalled thank godness for seatbelts and the airbag or I would of been killed.

Seriously, that first second where control of your cars is just violently jerked away from you is the strangest, most terrifying feeling ever.
So about a year ago I was driving along in my mom's brand new Chevy Cavalier. I had three friends with me, and one of them was this chick who wanted to ride with us. It was friday night in the city, and traffic was really, really insane. This chick is being a stupid cunt, by like suddenly screaming at imaginary cars that are about to hit me just to scare me. I turn up the music until it is quite loud, to drown out her voice. She goes and grabs my arm, to give me a jolt, I knock her back into the seat. Then, I approach this intersection in a shitty neighborhood, with dumb bitch screaming like a moron, the music playing really loud, me being really pissed off and, oh, a parked car obscuring my view of this really fucking big black Jeep Cherokee without it's headlights on. It hit me in the side toward the front going about 40, knocking my front bumper clear off and sending me into this other car full of Puerto Rican gangbangers. No one was hurt, but the gangbangers jump out all pissed off, and the chick, like the dumb bitch that she is, jumps out of the car all apologetic and shit. I tried to bitch at her but my door was pinned shut. She did sort of talk them down luckily, and then the cops arrived, and my friend and I darted into the mandatory ambulance ride and got the fuck away from there...but man that was the most surreal thing ever.

MY first accident: Can't remember, I was on a motorcycle, and got hit from behind by some old woman going 55mph. Second accident: I was out in a snowstorm, pulling out fomr a small sideroad. Didn't see the 18 wheeler coming, and he tapped my right fender. Ruined the car and did 800 dollars damage to the 18 wheeler. Perhaps third time's the charm and I'll get killed or something, bah.

I think somewhere between 30 & 40mph. Obviously, I was wearing a seatbelt.

Who knows?

I suppose I should, but, you imply that I have money. If I had the cash, the thing would've had at least decent tires on it, and decent brakes (and, according the trooper who looked at everything, the crash probably wouldn't have happened if I had those). My step-mom went off a bought an 800-dollar yearling; I don't see why she could have gotten the vehicle a new set of tires, and the brakes fixed. I'm barely gonna get the ticket paid off in time. This is gonna be phun.
I've been trying to get m' dad to cosign on a loan so that I can pay for what remains of this year and all of next. This is certainly going to complicate things.

My God, my left elbow hurts. I'm gonna get it checked out tomorrow at the "Express Care" we have here. I thank you guys for your concern.
<dd>I was visiting my cousin at her dorm. Her mom calls. The accident gets mentioned. I get to talk to her mom. M' step-aunt started by asking if I was okay. We talked about what happened. She worked for Goodyear, and told me that my step-mom shouldn't have let me drive the truck, with how bad the tires were, particularly when paired with the brakes (the vehicle was an '86 Toyota 4Runner with almost 230k miles on it). She urged me to make an appointment with m' doctor. I did.
<dd>I called my dad at his office, and told him about it. The first thing he asked was if I was serious. Then he said this was the last thing he needed to happen. Next was about the condition of the truck (totalled, obviously). Never once did he asked if I was okay. Thanks, dad. <img src=smilies/angryfire.gif>
<dd>My cousin amused me by having me play The Sims, and providing the cheat codes for booku bucks. I put together a family of five (husband, wife, and three daughters). I began to build a house, and began thinking "hmm, perhaps I should consider looking into interior design." Somewhere around here, my step-mom's mom calls. First thing she asked was if I was okay, then about specifics.
<dd>I went to work at 5:30, as scheduled. I held up just fine, that is, until I hit my left elbow on the stainless steel shelves. It's been aching and yelping since then. I get out around 8, and tonight it was just a few minutes afterward. No one came to see how I was.
<dd>Guess I now know where I stand in the family....
