View Full Version : Shoot me before I...

...do something stupid. (would've posted this earlier, but, I was checking everything else. Business before whining)

Okay, I was hanging out with some of my friends who graduated HS last year yesterday afternoon. Among the group are some who are still stuck in that hell-box. We meet at...well, I don't think anybody else here goes to Ohio U, so, building name matters not. It's the student center, and is uptown (as we call it here). Yes, I'm a townie. Anyway, one of 'em there is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed gal who needs the big eyes and pointed ears to look like an anime Elf. She's a nice girl, likes anime (maybe a little too much), particularly yaoi (way too much), good-tempered, funny, and is a bit crazy. She's 15. I'm 21. Not good.

Anyway, the lot of us headed out to get Chinese food. This gal breaks from the main group, and drags me into an all-girl store. She goes thumbing through all sorts of stuff, and then starts getting all excited about a big sale on underwear. Thongs, to be precise. She starts going through the well-kept display, commenting on almost all the different styles. She bought three.

Now, I can resist most temptations. Normally, I can resist this as well. Except, there's something about this gal I can't. I think it's the way she smells; her scent is nearly identical to somebody I was seeing a few years ago (this other girl was my first between the sheets, the longest relationship I've been in, and that scent is what drew me to her).

Now, here's what gives such a conflict in will. Ohio Revised Code, 2907.04, the part about sexual corruption of a minor, states:

<dd>(A) No person who is eighteen years of age or older shall engage in sexual conduct with another, who is not the spouse of the offender, when the offender knows such other person is thirteen years of age or older but less than sixteen years of age, or the offender is reckless in that regard.

<dd>(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of corruption of a minor, a felony of the third degree. If the offender is less than four years older than the other person, corruption of a minor is a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Isn't that fucked up? When she turns 16, she's fair game. I don't think that's right. Personally, I'm considering contacting my rep in the Ohio Gen. Assembly, and tell 'em to make it so that between 18 and 21, 16 & up is legal, and upon reaching 21 years of age, minors are not allowed.

I'm pretty sure there's something much more severe for anything under 13.

Back to topic, my willpower to resist has been holding up, but for how much longer, I don't know. I probably should stop hanging out with them for awhile, which is difficult, since they're m' friends. Damn. Possible jail, or fellowship. I hate this.

This is much ado about nothing.

IYour disgust is misplaced. Just becuase your tempted and you think it is morally wrong does not mean the law is wrong. It sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I know, I know. It's insane. I'm mainly kicking myself for not keeping my guard against such things up enough. I'm just going have to stay away for awhile. There's no other viable alternative.

Laws are laws. I obide by ones I agree with, place further restraints on myself when I don't think the law does enough, and break 'em when they go too far (that's a rarity, though). This one's is one of those that try to regulate morality. This one tends to work, 'cuz not many people are like that.

What bothers me about the law is this: If both parties agree, somebody at whatever age can have sex with a 16-year old and not have to worry about any form of legal crap. However, take a picture of a 16-year old in the buck, and that's illegal, even if this person agrees to it. Now, which is the greater sexual contact? Obvious, I know. So, why is the lesser one a crime? I think they both ought to be crimes, but, that's just me.

Well, the law will have you believe that every girl is the same.

Age is a nebulous and rickety barrier to erect. In his case you speak much sense, but it's not the same for every case.

One question: is she really worth the trouble?
Even if she is mature for her age and you two actually have some common ground, is it going to be worth dealing with her family, friends, the law?

I can't really say older guys with younger girls is always wrong but usually it isn't right when there's that kind of age gap. Maybe it's just hard for me to relate. I find a lot of people my own age to be immature, hence why I'm dating a woman who's three years older then me. I'm sure there are people who would find that weird. Do what's right for you and for her. Be careful out there. <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>
