Okay, get this shit. Three weeks ago, we were assigned our second project in my File Processing class that I"m taking at the university I go to. Two weeks later, the prof finally gets around to assigning partners to those who don't have partners yet. So that's working against me from the start since I only had 1 week to do it. Okay, so, I'm in communication with my partner, "Hey, how's it going," "Yeah, it's going great," and so on, so yesterday I ask her for the main program that she was supposed to be working on (I was supposed to be doing the classes and methods), and now five hours ago I finally get it, and it's a load of indecipherable CRAP that I can't make heads or tails of. Okay, twelve hours before I have to turn it in I have to do a complete rewrite of her code, and then hook my code into it and... bah. Fuck it. I'm just going to drop the goddamn course.

my friend had to do some collective programming stuff....which is crap. you can't do collective programming while you're learning. you haven't developed a style yet.

why does it work with open source programs? because everyone has developed their "style" which other programmers can easily pick up. they comment their code, they always indent, etc.

remember, your teacher may teach you stuff that is syntactically correct, but has no place in real-life programs.

] My university is very big on team projects, which I can't
] stand because people are lazy as hell and don't care a good
] portion of the time.
]
] In any case, following basic structural rules such as
] indenting, naming your variables using meaningful names that
] indicate their type and usage and putting extensive,
] descriptive comments throughout your code so that others
] (and yourself, if you ever need to look back on what you
] did) know what is going on is the best way to go.
] Thankfully my university stresses all of these points as
] well, but group projects are a pain in the ass no matter
] what.

That totally sucks. One reason why I hate working in groups -- you just can't depend on other people. Well, at least it doesn't seem like I can. Maybe I'm just surrounded by slackers... ?

> That's a lot of nice pseudo-code she left in there for you.

i'm not a programmer, and even so i can tell what she did wrong with the code, and like you guys said, no comments, and no adaptability
