I need two things, preferably free because of their low cost to you if you've got them lying around.
1.) An HDD. As long as it's at least 10GB I can safely use Windows XP on it and have an extra PC for 'whatever'.
2.) I need a cooling solution for my 486DX4 CPU. A large socket 7 heatsink should do it.
3.) Those special clips or whatever they are you use to remove 486 CPUs.

Sounds like an LIF socket. Try a fork, I used one once on an old IBM and it worked for me.

I used two screwdrivers, but it wasn't a perfect 'extraction'. Definitely not a LIF (well, it is a LIF, but it should be called a HIF hehe).

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, I've gotten several out fine just by carefully using one small-but-sturdy screwdriver. I'd just gently pry it out a bit on one side, pry it out a little bit on the other side, ease it out a bit more on the first side, etc.
