I don't know what happened. I started taking lessons just after christmas, and I've been doing well, but struggling to get the chords right, and not delay doing it, and not fuck up...and all that jazz.

Then I just woke up today, and I was like, playing the guitar, and like...playing it fast, and quite accurately. nothing complex...i haven't learned anything too complex yet..but what I did learn I was playing nearly perfectly. is it possible to just wake up and be better at something? this really is amazing me<img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

yes. Practicing, then giving your fingers time to rest (say over night) gives them a chance to recover and remember the motions...

So you can get better by sleeping. Just don't rely only on sleeping to improve...

Oddly, I seem to play better when I haven't touched the thing for like a week.

Seriously, I came back from Florida after a week in the beginning of Janaury and played Iron Maiden's "Phantom of the Opera" without fucking up. Not easy. And I haven't reproduced that feat since. :-P

I dunno how sudden it was, but I went from about 9th or 10th grade level to probably senior college level writing probably in less than a couple weeks around early senior year. For some reason, I lost my ambiguity in how to develop an entire paper...it still takes some time to write the first words, but once that happens, I pretty much don't pause til the paper is over...it all comes to me, and before, I would have to do it in chunks n stuff, and I couldn't get a good form down, and I really struggled with theses. Then it just sorta fell into place in a short amount of time.
