ok..if you are a jock, read. if you know someone who is a jock, get them to read.

we did a gig tonight and i was really disappointed in the audio system. it sucked. i need to do SOMETHING.

what we're running right now are 2 high cabs (dual 18" woofers, 2 tweeters and a horn), and 2 low cabs (18" subwoofer). sometimes we hook in 2 more bass speakers. it's powered by 2 qsc mx-1500a amps. one to highs and one to lows.

the highs sound nasal and poppy...which is to be expected from crappy speakers like the ones i have. i want EAW LA series. yeah baby.

but the lows...they should pound. we need this to POUND.

any suggestions? i think they're not resonating properly because they're free standing in a big room rather than against a wall or built into the frame of the building.

next gig is scheduled for the 8th. i want this done by then. hmph. <img src=smilies/headshake.gif>

think i figured it out.

i'll get 2 cerwin vega t-36 subs...18" sub woofer with 1000 watts rms and 2000 watts peak...136 dB spl @ 1 meter. $979 each. i'll power them with my qsc mx-1500a...one each in bridged mono delivering 1000 watts.

to power my high cabs (since both amps are now being used for the new subs), i'll get a new qsc rmx-2450 which gives 750 watts @ 4 ohms per chan...$599.

Nasal Sounds huh? Try using the EQ to crank down the mid-section a tad bit. Also, if you want to pound, have you tried porting the box? I've had some pretty good experience in porting a sealed box. In the end, it pounded like it should, but with a lot less power used. I've blown so many fucking breakers in shitty buildings to achieve a good solid bass in a sealed box. But whatever. Good luck Swamp.

i have the entire midrange completely deadened to -12 dB. the problem is that i don't know the SPECIFIC frequencies...so in using this crappy 5 band EQ on the mixer, i'm killing my headroom and sound. that's why i got a real 31 band 1/3 octave eq with a spectral analyzer.

i don't use a sealed box. it's a ported sub....but it still sounds like crap. it doesn't resonate or carry. i need this crap to shake the roof and make the chests hurt.
