Which do you prefer?

Hard patching, as I rarely remember to set up the filenames correctly for soft patching. Much easier to work with.

Soft-patching so I can preserve the original ROM in it's regular form....except of course in the rare instance I'm patching a ROM with two different patches.

Hey, that's that girl from WPJ2 isn't it? I wish that guy wanting to translate it luck...I'd love to play it and understand it.

Heh, yeah, Josette by name.
I'd like to see it translated, too, I'll be doing some hacking to try and find a starting point for it when I can find some time.

I ask because I'm trying to decide which method to use myself. Currently I use a mix of both, but for various reasons I've decided to start my ROM collection from scratch and this time I'm going to pick one method and stick with it.

I know that soft-patching makes updating a translation/hack easier, since you can just swap the old .ips for the new one, but what advantages are there to hard-patching?

It's really just a matter of my own laziness, I'd rather patch once and be done with it, and have a ROM that I can use in any emulator I choose.

I recommend NSRT for auditing your SNES ROMs...I think it's surpassed GoodSNES in accuracy by quite a bit personally.
